Nate Jones, a member of the Ducks Attack staff, talked to RB Dontae Williams (Aldine, TX) to get a recruiting recap on the future Duck. Williams is rated as a four star RB on both scout and rivals.
Nate - What’s the one thing you enjoyed most about your trip to Oregon?
Dontae Williams – Oh my, can I say I loved all of it? (Laughing) I haven’t seen anything like that down here in Texas. I was really impressed by the way we came out and beat USC. We ran for over 300 plus on them. The fan support you guys got is really something. Autzen Stadium is the loudest stadium I’ve ever been in and can’t wait to play ball there. I really bonded well with all the players, including Darron Thomas.
Nate - Many people were worried about you taking so long to decide on Oregon. Was it the coaches, grades, or just family holding you back?
Dontae Williams - I knew right after the USC game that this is the place I’m going to play at. It really is something special what this team has going on for them. I’m taking a National Title while I’m here. My parents just wanted to make sure, like any other parent that this is the place I truly want to be and it certainly is. I can’t wait to be a Duck! My grades aren’t an issue, so there are no worries.
Nate - Are there any other teams looking for your pledge? USC just lost running back commit Trajuan Briggs to Cal today. There has been some speculation about USC calling you because of this.
Dontae Williams – Nope, USC hasn’t talked with me in awhile. Even if they did, I’m still 100 percent committed to my Oregon Ducks. I haven’t had any team talk to me in a long time. My mind is all on the Oregon Ducks, and only the Ducks.
Nate - You just got back from your trip to Hawaii, playing in the Hawaiian, Polynesian Mainland Bowl. Can you tell us how that went? Explain the relationships you made with other recruits and how the game went for you.
Dontae Williams – It was great getting out of the cold weather of Texas and tripping over to Hawaii. I really enjoyed the weather and I got to surf for the first time in my life. I actually did pretty well. I got to split time with running back Lache Seastrunk (An Oregon RB recruit). Lache and I were the only running backs from the mainland on the team. I can’t tell you my overall stats, but I had a great game and we ended up winning. I talked to Ricky Heimuli, another Oregon recruit. We didn’t talk much about our recruiting. My main focus of this trip was getting out and showing everyone that I’m a game changer and I think I did that.
Nate - What will you bring to this Oregon team in the years to come?
Dontae Williams - I’m going to fill the role Legarrette Blount. I plan on being the power back that will get you the first down yardage on those 3rd and short situations. But if I get into the secondary, I do have the speed to turn on the jets and get to the end zone. I feel I will compliment Lamichael James well here. Every time I get that ball, I am going to do something with it. I have that mentality that nobody is going to stop me. I guess you can say that’s just who I am. I can’t wait to win a lot of games at Oregon.
Nate - When do you plan on arriving to Eugene? Is there any chance of you playing in the spring game?
Dontae Williams – I plan to be there for the summer workouts, so no, I probably won’t be there for the spring game. I plan on being in Eugene for the summer term and ready to go for fall camp.
Nate - Is there a message you want me to leave Duck fans?
Dontae Williams – Tell them I’m proud to be a Duck and that I can’t wait to get up to Eugene, go Ducks!
Nate - Thanks for your time, Dontae.
Dontae Williams – You bet. Hit me up anytime you got questions!
