Ducks Attack has just learned that 6’1″ 185lb DB Marcus Davis, a former Texas Longhorns player, is in town and will be a duck. Marcus Davis was a 2008 recruit, rated as a four star by both scout and rivals. Coming out of high school, Davis accepted an offer from Texas over offers from Florida, Florida State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, TCU, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and UCLA.
Davis ran into trouble his freshman season at Texas and was caught driving while intoxicated. He was suspended indefinitely, and just a few months later he decided to transfer from Texas.
Oregon head coach Chip Kelly has dealt with troubled players before, and has been know to give players a chance at redemption. For Davis, this opens up a great opportunity for him to get back on track. The Oregon coaches love the talent he brings to the table, and even compare him to former Oregon safety Patrick Chung. Davis will play safety, and can play corner back as well.

Sounds like a potential keeper… Davis should have no delusions about what CK’s expectations for behavior are.
I assume he will have 4 years to play 3, counting his RS?

i hope he has learned his lesson. and knows the true value of a second chance. however, this is good news and i like it.

I presume that he redshirted in 2009 and will have to sit out a year, due to transfer rules. He should then have 3 years to play.

Sounds like a good pick up! Let’s hope that he meets much success on and off the field while at Oregon.

Maybe if that ravioli masoli is still around this weekend, he could hook him up with some weed to go with his drink.
The uniforms are going to have a lot of numbers accross the chest next year and all the pictures in the program will be profile shots.

1BIGDUCKFAN…..ravioli masoli? this article has NOTHING to with J. Masoli…this article is about M. Davis and his getting a 2nd chance…so leave your unnecessary name calling and comments to yourself. this just proves that you’re 1BIGDUCKFAN with 1SMALLBRAIN!
Goooo M Davis…and GOOOOO DUCKS!

I like his talent, hate his resume. I really wonder why we want to adopt problem discards like this? Most of the time, guys who get tossed out of rival programs are more trouble than they’re worth–not to mention, how bad this looks for the brand of the program. I’m not against second chances, but I’m more protective of our brand equity. Wonder why Kelly isn’t? Is he a slow learner?

This IS a curious addition at this particular point in time given the tumultuous winter the program suffered through.
That said, I accede to Coach K’s instinct re a kid’s ability to rehab himself and become a contributing member of our society, as well as our team.
Welcome to Eugene, Marcus – I think all Duck fans will pull for you to get your act together.

Amen Coastal Duck. Davis is a very solid student, and to my knowledge didn’t have any problems in high school. I’m sure CK sees more then just talent in Davis, and is willing to help him become a better man. If any coach should be able to help him, It’s Chip.
