Old world record was 9026 points, set in 2001 by the Czech, Roman Sebrle. He ran a 4:14.48 1500 to do it, which was a PR by I think about 4 seconds. Amazing performance by an amazing athlete.

i thought that guy out front was about to get lapped. apparently he was in the lead and let eaton pass him so he could win the race. i really like eaton's reaction when he realizes he set the record.

the Duke kid is the one who let him pass at the end. He thought that Eaton deserved to win the race that he set the world record in.

Classy moves by both Curtis Beach (Duke) to let Eaton finish first, and Joe Detmer, who stayed right on Eaton's shoulder to help push him to the record. They clearly demonstrated the best attributes of athletic competition.
