Finished 2nd in both the mens and womens competition. Congrats to all teams on a job well done and next year we will take it for sure!!

They had a good week but they dropped a lot of points on the men's side that would have easily won them the title. I think that it's harder for Oregon to win the outdoor title because they really don't compete in any of the sprint or jumping events. They need to find a way to get better in those events.

With Galen Rupp leaving it might be kind of hard to win next year because of the lack of the Ducks being able to compete at the sprint events like Texas A&M. There are more sprinting events then long distance events which translates to more points for A&M, Florida, Florida State, etc. Congratulations though to both the Ducks men and women's teams and individual champions, for the men a championship in cross country, and indoor title and runner up at the outdoor event is nothing to slouch at! GO DUCKS!

I am looking forward to seeing Rupp in 2012 at the Olympic qualifier in Eugene and the Olympics in London, he is the best chance the Americans have maybe ever had at winning a medal in the long distance events. Rupp himself had 20 of the Ducks 46 points and Easton added another 10 points so Rupp and Easton had 30 of the 46. It's too bad no other guys really stepped up to provide more points for the Ducks.

He won the event with a late charge and a Texas runner leaning too early for the line.

That's right Wheating won so that makes Rupp, Wheaton and Easton with 40 of the 46 Ducks points. What happened to everyone else? I think the Ducks were projected to have 54 points or something. Oh well, I think this is the beginning of a long dominate era for the Ducks!

The women were more rounded with only 2 individual champions compared to 4 individual champions for the men.

This really hurt our chances :

That's too bad because the Ducks only needed 3 points to win so if he would have made it to the final and finished sixth that would have given him 3 points.

I think that they were projected to have over 60 since Centrowitz and Cyrus Hostetler were favored to win their events and several others were projected to place. They missed their chances to put the title away. If Centrowitz and Hostetler had won their events, there's 15 points right there. Wolf had about the 6th or 7th best throw in the country so there's another 2-3 points. Chris Winter had about the 5th best time in the steeplechase and didn't place, so there's at least another 4. Luke Puskedra had the 6th best time in either the 10K or 5K (another 3 points.) In all, Oregon lost about 25 points by not having performances up to the seasonal bests. Even with all of those lost points, I'm still surprised Oregon was able to finish 2nd. Most teams couldn't be that competitive with that many of their top projected scorers not placing or scoring as well. This does show that Oregon has some of the most talented and deepest teams in the country.

Yes for the number of non-scorers the Ducks did well. One hopes that nationals will bring the best out in the atheletes, Ackerley seemed to be the only one to post a PR. There is always a hope that the Southern schools would perform better and compete for points in the sprints to offset the lack of Ducks there.

There is a lot of youth to this team and it will be fun to see how they do next year.

If the Ducks can land the Crouser cousins, (in-state talent ) that would bring some serious potential to the table. from the Oregonian:

This would give the ducks consistency in the Javalin, and some potential in the discus and shot long missing. article adds some an update on Mac Fleet who looks capable of being another Oregon great distance runner.
Wish I could comment on the woman but I have not followed their recruitment as much, other than Halsey.

The guys minus the studs disappointed. They should contend again next year, though. We have a pretty good incoming class and a very young team. Plus, Acosta comes back.
