Women's World Cup semi-final...
US took Germany 2-0, and it was an impressive match... Hope Solo was not the star.
The US offense found a way to wear down the German goalie in the second half. In the first half, she was lights out against what is likely the best performance of the US offense in this tourney. Carli Lloyd was easily the US MVP of this game, scoring the first goal on a PK, and assisting on the second, a point blank Kelley O'Hara strike.

I am not a huge soccer person, but I always watch the US (men and women) when I can in World Cup action. This was a fun match to watch. The US women have played at a very high level the past two matches after looking lackluster prior to that.

I'm hoping for England, since they're new to this level of play, and considering what happened against Japan 4 years ago

Solo got extremely lucky on the German PK... Solo dove left, and the German (Leading scorer in the tournament,Celia Sasic) shot for the opposite corner, but missed by at least 2 yards.
That was only the fourth missed PK by the German team in World Cup History.

The ref made a three really bad calls, two in the US favor and one in germany. Overall she had a good game but those moments marred it. That last goal was more than deserved, one I think would have sealed it in any case.mdm0302 wrote:we deserved to get lucky. Re: Women's World Cup semi-final...
The Germans looked desperate in the second half. The US seemed to be playing at a different level, and very confident.

The rubber match (of sorts) vs. Japan should be a good one. They took us last time in the WC but we were able to best them in the Olympics.

Re: Women's World Cup semi-final...
soccer is one of those sports where the final score can severely misrepresent who the better team was. The US was absolutely the better team. They deserved to win even with the bad calls. i can't wait for tomorrow!mdm0302 wrote:we deserved to get lucky.
