The defense has really been vital to this team and perhaps its most overlooked trait.

tough stretch beginning tonight. it is, however, a refreshing change of pace to begin a brutal portion of the schedule with anticipation rather than the assumption they’ll just lose.

The Blazers continue to look for minimum-salary contracts to fill next year's roster. The latest signee is Georgios Papagiannis, who just signed through next season. That's 11 guys under contract for next year; if they do any more, we know somebody on the current roster isn't coming back. He also happens to play Nurk's position, but that's probably just a coincidence. Meanwhile, the end of the bench is getting pretty crowded. It's getting so Stotts may actually have to play one of these guys in real games next season.

harkless has taken over this stretch of the 2Q. he’s been in double figures the last two games and already has 14 tonight. it’s been kind of a lost season for him but i’ll gladly take the unexpected production from here on out.

The Clippers, particularly in LA, have been a pain for years, but not tonight. Blazers make it 13 in a row with a 122-109 win. The 122 is the second most points for the Blazers during the streak, (123 vs GS). Blazers, 44-26 move to 2 up on OKC for 3rd in the West, and hold the tie-breaker over the Thunder. Up next, Houston @ Portland, Tuesday on TNT.

Auggghhh, a near steal, miss on a loose ball in the last 20 seconds, Houston gets out with a 115-111 win, snapping the Blazers' win streak at 13. 44-27. Harden, looks like the MVP, 13-25, 5-7 on 3's, 11-15 FT's, 42 pts. Lillard & McCollum, 9-32, 0-12 on 3's, 10-10 Ft's, McCollum didn't shoot any. Chief, and Nurkic had games, but it wasn't enough.. Blazers lose game 1 of a really tough 4, next Boston, Friday at Moda, followed by road games at OKC, and New Orleans.

I think Lillard may have found his motivation for the last 11 games of the season. If they don't finish third, they are likely to face Houston if the Blazers can get past the first round. For some reason, it's never 'Lillard time' when Chris Paul is around.

Nurkic, Harkless, and Aminu go a combined 21 of 26 from the field and 9 of 11 from three vs. the best team (record-wise anyway) in the NBA. Amazing. Maybe those three should go have a meeting with Paul Allen about getting a team put around them.

i'm a big fan of capela's game, but boy did nurk have his way with him.

unfortunately, james harden exists. aminu did an incredible job on him -- 25 defensive possessions, harden shot 1/6 and scored 6 points -- but he did most of his work on lillard. that offense is so effective in getting houston the match-ups they want.

meanwhile, lillard had (and will continue to have) a whale of a time against houston because ariza is his primary defender, and it's hard to shoot over that kind of height. trevor ariza is what i want moe harkless to be when he grows up.

Stotts did an amazing job getting the ball in the post to anyone Paul was guarding, if the refs would call fouls on him he wouldn't have had more than 10 min of run.

So, 44-27, 11 games left:
Boston,
@ OKC
@NO
@Mem*
LAC
Mem
@DAL
@Hou
@SA
@Den
Utah
* back to back
I say 50-32 is a reasonable pick.

Boston: Kyrie Irving out, Jaylen Brown out, Marcus Smart out, Gordon Hayward out, Daniel Theis out.
Portland: Jusuf Nurkic questionable, Evan Turner probable.

I'd take the over. It's a tough run but I'm hoping for better than 6-5.
