Mariners

Post by thomas time »

acquire Dee Gordon from Marlins to play cf, as long as he can play good defense I think it's another good move by Dipoto. Also received another million dollars to go after the Japanese pitcher/outfielder, they also made a move yesterday to acquire another million dollars. They now have the most money to go after him, and some think the Mariners are the favorites for him.

The bid for Otanhi has already been in for some time, that wont change. Only thing for him it might do is allow for a larger contract down the line (he is forced to make league min for first year.

1.) line-up looks promising
2.) bullpen looks deep, the nicasio signing was fantastic
3.) despite what could be a deep and talented pen, that starting rotation has a lot of holes and i'm not overly confident we'll be handing said bullpen many leads. felix is clearly on the decline, many fear that paxon may take a step back, and we're basically depending on erasmo ramirez to be a 30-game starter, which is nerve-racking. we need another viable starter here. i know dipito is looking for one. i doubt we'd shell out the money for yu darvish (and he has several other suitors) but we need something here.

Unrelated but I think there should be a salary floor in baseball.

I'd also try and trade Cano to the Yankees because I don't see this old team making a wild card when it relies on too much health and playing above average for most of the guys. Dee Gordon in CF could be good or terrible.

i don't think you're wrong about this team not making the wild card. the aura of self-defeatism surrounding this franchise is so strong i'm going to need to see them in the playoffs before i begin to believe it's a possibility.

worse, they play in a division with the best team in baseball, a team willing to outspend almost every other team in baseball, and two franchises with infinitely smarter baseball people than we have.

That’s why I stopped rooting for them as a child once they traded away Griffey. It started my hatred of all things Seattle.
