Mariota’s career in danger?

Post by OregonFan4Life »

I’ve been reading that this nerve injury may put his future at risk, even saw on a Titans forum that he may need to retire. If true, that sucks, bad luck to a great guy. Those weak cupcake linemen that allowed Mariota to get beat up all season owe him a lot.

Maybe if the Titans had actually invested in a decent OL, they wouldn't be facing this issue.

Mariota's career was in danger as soon as Tennessee drafted him.

The Titans quarterback said he won’t need surgery to repair damaged nerves and he needs just rest for the nerves to heal during the offseason. Mariota added that he expects a full recovery.
"What it came down to was just allowing time for the nerve to heal,'' Mariota said told reporters Monday. "Unfortunately, I’ve had several nerve injuries throughout the course of the year, and it just left me susceptible to a bigger injury. And when it came down to it, he felt through time and some rest, the nerve should calm down and it should fully recover.''
The nerve damage in his neck forced Mariota to sit out the Titans 33-17 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. The loss prevented the Titans from earning a playoff berth for the second consecutive season. Mariota said watching from the sidelines was very difficult.

“Very disappointed. What it came down to is: When you have an opportunity to play a game that you love, and someone tells you you shouldn’t, that’s one of the hardest things any athlete has to go through," Mariota told reporters Monday. “Unfortunately, I had to deal with that.”
Mariota said he and the team consulted with several specialists before deciding he would sit out the game against the Colts. There was concern about long-term and potentially permanent damage if Mariota returned to the field to face the Colts.
Mariota first suffered an ulnar nerve injury in his right elbow in Week 1. The recurring effects from the original injury forced him to miss two full games and leave early in three others during the 2018 season. Mariota and the Titans had hoped he would be available to play against the Colts and he was limited in practice in last week. However, his long-term health ultimately determined he would not play, a decision that left Mariota unhappy.

“I wasn’t able to get to a point where I was ready to go,” Mariota told reporters Monday. "You don’t always agree with those decisions. I was not happy with it, but ultimately what happened is I was not able to be out there with the guys.
"Just focus on what it takes day in and day out, and for me it is getting healthy. It is going to take some time, but I am willing to put in the work and when it comes down to it when we get back in here I’ll be ready to go.”
