Make it 13-2. The Mariners didn't lead in this one until Vogelbach's home run in the 10th made it 7-6. It was 4-0 Royals after 5. Dee Gordon kept the home run streak alive in the 6th, and added a triple later on. Last night Haniger's home run got the win, today his two run triple with 2 outs in the 9th tied it up. Mariners 13-2. Tomorrow night Houston comes to T Mobile.

This is silly. But you know it's gonna come to a violent end soon. Good things don't last in Seattle.

Yeah, Seattle doesn't have the pitching to keep it up and most of the line-up is hitting well above their career averages but it's certainly been fun, especially when this was looking like a 68-win team about a month ago.

This homestand will be a nice test. Houston/Cleveland. Lost in the ruckus of starting 13-2 is that Seattle's opponents are a combined 25-42, and 16 of those wins comes from Oakland and Anaheim, who we've combined to play only 4 times. It hasn't exactly been a murderer's row to start the season. Even Boston sucks out loud at the moment.

What's it take to beat the Mariners? Two grand slams did it for the Astros, 10-6. All the Astros runs came via a home run. Springer started it with a 2 run shot in the 3rd, Alyuve cleared em all in the 6th, and Gurriel got his in the 8th. The Mariners did keep their record setting streak consecutive games with a home run, when Tom Murphy got one in the bottom of the 9th.

The Mariners are turning in to the Ducks' softball team. They started off great, but, due to pitching and defense have gone in to a freefall.

SEATTLE -- Make it 19 straight games with a home run for the Mariners as the long-ball show continued at T-Mobile Park on Monday, though Seattle waited until the eighth inning to unleash back-to-back blasts by Edwin Encarnacion and Omar Narváez in a 6-4 loss to the Indians.
The two late homers extended the Mariners’ Major League record for consecutive games with a home run to start the season, well beyond the previous mark of 14 set by the 2002 Indians.
Despite the late push, the Mariners endured their fourth straight loss and fell to 13-6, while Cleveland snapped a three-game skid of its own and is now 9-7.
“It was tough to get much going early tonight against [Trevor] Bauer,” Mariners manager Scott Servais said. “Obviously he had good stuff and threw the ball well. We’ve seen some good pitching lately.”
Bauer and a pair of relievers kept the Mariners in the yard until Encarnacion and Narvaez unloaded on lefty Oliver Perez. Encarnacion’s two-run bolt was his fifth of the season and Narvaez's solo shot his third. The Mariners’ 19-game homer streak ties for the second-longest in club history at any point in a season. Seattle’s record for consecutive games with a homer is 23 set from June 20 to July 19, 2013, while the Mariners also had a 19-game streak in September of 1999.
The Major League record for consecutive games with a home run at any point in a season is 27 by the '02 Rangers.
The two homers cut the Indians’ lead to 5-4 after Cleveland scored twice in the top of the eighth -- without recording a hit -- when Seattle relievers Zac Rosscup, Connor Sadzeck and Shawn Armstrong combined for four walks, a hit batter and two wild pitches.
Bauer struck out eight over 6 2/3 innings while allowing five hits, three walks and one run. Mariners lefty Yusei Kikuchi took the loss, giving up five hits, three walks and three runs over six innings and is now 0-1 with a 4.23 ERA in five starts.
The Mariners got to Bauer once in the sixth on a double by Mitch Haniger and a run-scoring single by Domingo Santana. They threatened again in the seventh, but Indians reliever Adam Cimber struck out Haniger with the bases loaded.

After a tremendous start to the season, the Mariners have come back to Earth with four straight losses, including a 6-4 setback to the Indians on Monday night.
It shouldn’t be a huge surprise, given no one expected Seattle to start the season at 13-2, and the reality check has come in the form of the Astros and Indians, two of the top clubs in the American League.
For what it’s worth, the Mariners are still a half-game ahead of Houston in the early AL West standings at 13-6, and continue bashing home runs at a record rate, with two more on Monday that puts them at 41 in 19 games. That’s a pace for 350 on the season, which would shatter last year’s MLB record of 267 by the Yankees.
So, yeah, that pace likely will slow eventually as well. But this season is still just getting rolling and we’re still learning what direction this Mariners team will take.
Here are three observations from the opening game against Cleveland:
1. Those other guys get paid, too… a lot
The Mariners’ offense finally slowed the last three days, but much of that has to do with who they’re facing. The last three opposing starters were Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole of the Astros, followed by Trevor Bauer of the Indians.
Those are three of the top six finalists in last year’s AL Cy Young Award voting -- earning a combined $54.5 million this year -- and that’s rough sledding for any opposing offense.
The Mariners totaled 16 hits and seven runs in those three games, with 40 strikeouts and four walks. The strikeouts are a bit alarming, though they didn’t seem to catch many breaks on borderline strike calls in favor of the elite pitchers, either.
“We just have to keep battling,” said Edwin Encarnacion, who had one of Seattle’s homers on Monday. “We know we’ve been facing good pitchers. We just need to keep focused on what we’ve been doing. I trust this team and these guys. We have great talent here and we’re going to be all right. These are tough games. We can play better than we’ve played.”
Seattle’s offense isn’t going to be as good as it looked in racking up five-plus runs in 14 of its first 15 games, nor is it going to be as bad as it appeared against Verlander, Cole and Bauer, who combined for 30 strikeouts in 18 2/3 innings.

“We are going to have some ups and downs throughout the season,” Mariners manager Scott Servais said. “We’re just in one of those little lulls right now, and a lot of it has been driven by the pitching we’ve been facing.”
2. Yusei Kikuchi is learning on the job
Mariners starter Kikuchi is still adjusting to life in the Majors, and part of that is learning how to pitch to hitters he’s never seen before.
Whether that’s the only reason or not, Kikuchi has been a very slow starter in his first five outings, including Monday when he gave up two runs on three hits and a walk in the first before settling in and giving Seattle six innings of three-run ball.
In his five starts, Kikuchi has an 8.10 ERA and opposing teams are hitting .333 against him in the first two innings. From the third inning on, the ERA is 2.04 with a .164 batting average.
That’s a significant difference and something the Mariners certainly want to figure out.
“Once he gets rolling later in the game, his tempo picks up and everything comes a little easier for him,” Servais said. “But again, he gives us six innings and we’re right in the ballgame.”
Kikuchi prides himself on preparation and studies plenty of video, but there’s nothing like seeing how hitters actually react to your pitches and being able to work off that.
“These last three starts I’ve been giving up runs early in the game,” Kikuchi said through translator Justin Novak. “I am going through scouting reports and preparing myself, but that’s something I need to work on going forward.”
3. Bullpen and defense remain keys
The Mariners’ offense has helped overcome shortcomings in other areas in the first few weeks, but it’s impossible to win many close games without playing good defense and getting strong results from the relief crew.
Both those areas have shown signs of improvement, but Monday didn’t go well as relievers Zac Rosscup, Connor Sadzeck and Shawn Armstrong surrendered two critical runs in the eighth without allowing a hit, thanks to four walks, a hit batter and two wild pitches.

Additionally, two throwing errors on shortstop Tim Beckham in the ninth allowed an unearned run that provided some cushion for Cleveland.
“The eighth inning got a little crazy with the walks,” Servais said. “We have to control the strike zone and we didn’t do that tonight out of the bullpen. Disappointing. I thought over the weekend we played pretty crisp ball. It just got away from us late in the game tonight.
“We threw to the wrong base and didn’t execute some other things. We’re going to have nights like that. You can have nights with the bat, but it was a little hiccup tonight defensively.”

Agreed. 13-2 was a mirage, like the Mets starting 11-1 last year before reverting to form. A soft schedule and timely hitting masked a lot of holes.

The team is still better than I thought they'd be. It'll be interesting to see where they're at by the end of May. If they're still above .500 I wonder if they'll pick up a starter and some relievers? The front office won't give up anything of value (I hope) but this team -- as constructed -- should feast on bad pitching during the summer months. It'd be very Mariner for this of all teams to be the one that sneaks into a Wild Card berth and breaks the streak.

Trout ties it in the bottom of the 8th, but back to back home runs, by Beckham, then Narvaez, put the Mariners back on top, and the bullpen holds on for the win.

Mariners get 5 in the top of the 9th, on 3 home runs, but it isn't enough, and the Angels win, 8-6. Mariners take the series, 2-1; on to San Diego for 2 games against the Padres, starting Tuesday.

Mariners come back down to earth after getting swept in Boston, going 2-7 I think on their road trip. As bad as Boston was and as hot Seattle was Mariners are 3 down and Boston 3 games over 500.
