Portland Trail Blazers 2019/20 Thread
Game 1, Nuggets @ Blazers. Nuggets getting a lot of pre-season hype, Blazers not so much.

Nuggets made no off-season moves that will make them better. They need existing guys to take big leaps forward while hoping some veterans don't start to trail off.

Jokic is reminiscent of Sabonis in the paint, and can shoot the 3. Kanter was effective somewhat against him in the playoffs. Millsap was a pain throughout the series. The Blazers will have the advantage of a different look for the Nuggets to deal with.

The Blazers will go as far as Bazemore and Zach Collins take them.

I think we are largely reliant on how much Collins improves and how good Whiteside is. If Whiteside is 2013 Hassan Whiteside then the sky is the limit but we'll see how well he integrates.

That's not going to be far...StevensTechU wrote:The Blazers will go as far as Bazemore and Zach Collins take them.
I think Blazers should and will make a move. They have large expirings (Baze & Whiteside) and they have young players on rookie contracts. They need to pick a starting caliber forward.
I wasn't a big fan of Mo and Aminu, but this team is going to miss the defensive versatility.

Whiteside doing a great job against Jokic , 0 points, 3 fouls midway through the first quarter; 6 points, 7 rebounds for Whiteside.

Too bad that with Jokic out the Blazers could only have a 3 point lead after one. Great half court drive from Lillard; started with a fake tat left Plumlee on the floor, ended with a posterizing of Murray.

Jokic doesn't play for the rest of the first half, Denver with the lead, 54-50. Whiteside has a double-double already. Shooting is pretty close overall, but while the makes are close, Denver is 9-13, Blazers are 2-10, on 3's.

Re: Portland Trail Blazers 2019/20 Thread
18 game home opener winning streak is snapped as Denver wins, 108-100. The Nuggets won it at the 3 point line 18-32 for Denver 56% Portland 7-28 25%. Lillard finishes with 32. But I thought the star of the game was Whiteside, 16 points, 19 rebounds. Everybody played for the Blazers. I think that for cohesion and just having the best players get more minutes, that might change. Simons truly looks like he's 11 years old. Like the other Blazers his shot wasn't falling, but his biggest problem is staying up with his guy on defense.

Collins & Whiteside on the floor together is not a winning combination for the offense. Hope to see less of that moving forward.
