Mass Stanford Football Exodus
Looks like the bleeding continues at Stanford, as QB KJ Costello has become the 12th Cardinal player to enter the transfer portal. Part of the issue seems to be that most these players have graduated but can't get into a graduate program at Stanford so are basically being forced out. Another potential factor driving this is the possibility that David Shaw takes an NFL HC job this off-season.

What a way for an era to end. Yikes.
They had ~75 players on scholarship at the start of the year. Their incoming class has 20 dudes in it, but if their players are going to mostly be limited to 4 years, total, they need to be signing full classes of 25. Which is probably difficult to impossible given Stanford's admissions criteria.
They have a legitimate complaint that the current rule structure is making it impossible for them to field a competitive team (or at least a full one).

Wouldn't that be an issue every year though? 5th year guys or early graduating guys not being able to get into grad school then having to travel?
Why so excessive this year?

The "not getting into Stanford grad school" thing seems like an easy fix. Just don't submit graduation papers and take ballroom dancing fall semester of senior year ala Joey Harrington.

Correct. Stanford players do it all the time. That is not the reason for the transfers which seem to be various personal reasons. A number of these kids graduated specifically so they could use the no-sit out transfer rule.DuckMastaFunk wrote:The "not getting into Stanford grad school" thing seems like an easy fix. I hate losing to Stanford, but it is pretty sad to see a program deteriorate like this. Not so sad when it is USC, lol.

In CFB recruiting, if you have an issue like that, you merely say its an advantage because of the value of a Stanford degree and the ability to transfer out etc.GrandpaDuck wrote:Correct.
