That's frankly not a bad conference for either football or basketball. I don't know if it's a Power 5 without a top brand or a supercharged Group of 5, but they figure to have teams in the top 25 pretty consistently.

I don't see it making a major difference in football for BTU, but it could be a boon for the other three schools due to local talent being able to stay at home and playing in a Power-5 conference.

Smart play by the Big-12. You are planning for the future at this point. That could turn out to be a solid Power 5 conference down the road. Those schools are in major markets and now they will get a recruiting boost for being in the Big-12.
