Oregon loses 5+ runners to transfer
Many people expected Oregon to have some transfers/defections once the Powells left for UW, but it's worse than most thought. Of the 9 women XC runners who were expected back, 4 have now transferred, including Katie Rainsberger, Lilli Burdon, and Judy Pendergast (all who were expected to be their main contributors.) On the men's side, they lost returners Mick Stanovsek, Tanner Anderson, and Jackson Hoey while also losing top incoming FR Josh Hoey and Brodey Hasty. These losses will also likely hurt them during T&F season since they now have barely any distance runners with any proven conference and/or NCAA experience.

Also transferring are women's sprinter Lauren Rain Williams, who was expected to be a major scorer for them, and men's sprinter Myles Webb, who contributed valuable points at the conference meet. I think this is going to be an issue for the track program program as a whole for a while as they're dealing with new distance coaches and not having a facility to call home for the next couple seasons.

Yeah, I think so. Maybe especially if any of these runners end up at UW. Not that the AD should "go crazy," but I wonder if there's any concern directed at the current coaching staff upon seeing this. Particularly if Uncle Phil is having concerns about all of these defections.

I'm not sure about the details of lost facilities and track during construction, but I am confident that uncle Phil will not let the track program falter after construction is complete. He is redoing TRACK TOWN USA, I'm confident he with take care of any needs, coaching, facilities....... it's Oregon track and field.

Stanovsek and Anderson confirmed Wednesday that they’re transferring to Washington to reunite with longtime Oregon men’s distance coach Andy Powell, now the head coach of the Huskies, and former Oregon women’s distance coach Maurica Powell, who is the Huskies’ director of track and field and cross country.
The Powells were hired by Washington in June.
Multiple sources have told The Register-Guard that Rainsberger and Burdon are also heading to Seattle, though neither could be reached for comment Wednesday.
One, maybe two following the Powell's I could understand, but 4? Wonder how many suddenly got full scholarships?

Based on the hirings the Powells have made so far and who they're going after for athletes, it appears they're going to start off as mainly a distance and field program with the sprints being built up later on once they established their brand up there. The poaching of so many Oregon athletes is not going to sit well with Johnson, remaining team members and coaches, and fans.

Poaching happens. Short term loss. The UO track program and legacy will continue to be a big university, and more importantly, a big PK interest.

So it looks like Burdon and Rainsberger are now on the UW roster, as expected.

So does Johnson do zero recruiting? How are so many following two assistant coaches? Especially from such a historically strong program. Is Johnson a ‘hands-off’ coach? Is he not liked by the athletes? Are there issues that are pending internally? I’m not privy to T&F coaching/recruiting. Seems extremely odd when compared to other sports. Does this have anything to do with the Hayward situation? Can anyone even attempt to explain this? Still not worried long term, but something doesn’t smell right.

The lack of a transfer penalty in T&F is a big part I assume.Everythingsducky wrote:So does Johnson do zero recruiting? How are so many following two assistant coaches? I believe the penalty applies to T&F but most schools choose not to enforce it. I do remember a couple years ago a UCLA to Oregon transfer had to sit out because the Bruins wouldn't release him. With the frequency T&F athletes move around it seemed petty.
