No excuses but....
Let's not forget how fortunate/resilient we were to make it to the National Chqmpionship this year:
Bralon Addison 890yds, 9tds, 280punt return yds, 2tds
-leading receiver and one of our best players coming into he season
Devon Allen 684yds, 7tds
-3rd leading receiver and our best downfield threat
Darren Carringotn 704yds, 4tds
-2nd leading receiver and another downfield threat
Pharaoh Brown 420yds, 6tds
-best tight end and one of our most talentd players
-great blocker/receiver
-can exploit 1on1s with linebackers (beat Myles Jack earlier this year on a 1-on-1)
Tyler Johnstone - 26 starts
-most talented offensive lineman
-freshman all American, all pac-12 player
Ifo Ekpre-Olomu - 4 year starter
-2 time all-American

My thoughts exactly. I would have loved to see what a healthy Oregon team could have done in the title game. But that's football and Ohio State had their share of adversity as well.
I think Pharaoh especially would have been big in that game last night.

Thats just sick when your 3rd string quarterback can come in and lead your team to wins in the conference championship, sugar bowl, and national championship. Makes ya wonder how many really talented kids sat behind starters and never got a look because the starter didn't get hurt. I know they load em up at Bama, Florida State, Ohio State etc....Sooth wrote:My thoughts exactly. I would have loved to see what a healthy Oregon team could have done in the title game. Sucks for yall, but I love how this worked out for Jones. He went from not having a shot to having a strong chance of being drafted in the 4-6 rounds this year if he leaves. Great feel good story....if you're not a duck fan that is
He said it in a simple tweet after the Bama game, "third string." I said it before the game, this kid could start at any college that didn't have a Heisman candidate in front of him and the only reason he was 3rd string is that he was unfortunate enough to have TWO in front of him

I don't mind Oregon losing to him. The kid is obviously talented, and is most likely starting at 90% of the big 5 schools. As an Oregon fan it sucks that the ducks lost. As a football fan it's good to see Jones get a chance to show what he can do

Re: No excuses but....
Not making excuses............but there does come a tipping point when you just lose too many people to become effective. Meyer had two less WR's to plan for. FRICKING GIFT PEOPLE! Most teams don't turn over the ball 4 times and beat us. We beat ourselves. Offense needed to put up points & try to hope the defense could keep them contained. Coulda, woulda, shoulda. Opportunity was there when we were only down by one point.

The opportunity was there in the first quarter when the Ducks failed to convert 3 consecutive 3rd down attempts... How often does that happen?
Autzen Stadium... Where great teams go to die...Hard!

I like it when people say "no excuses" and then give an excuse. Always makes me laugh. Give the other team credit for winning.

Re: No excuses but....
I totally give Ohio State credit for winning... they were the better team that day.
That said, I see nothing wrong with talking about some of the reasons why we lost, and the loss of so many talented receivers/blockers really hurt us... not just in the receiving game, but in the run game (in fact, probably more so in the run game).
Doesn't matter now, though. Upward and onward.

Re: No excuses but....
Yes, but Ohio State having a talented game manager behind a great O-line and running game had absolutely nothing to do with our total lack of depth at receiver.tOSU was down to their 3rd string QB. No excuses.
