Are you pleased with the hire? Do you think we could have done better?
There's so much criteria to jugde against, but ultimately how do you feel they line up against the other position coaches in the Pac-12?

They all get an A+ until they aren't undefeated anymore.

Re: Grade the coaching staff
Again, how about we give them a chance to show us what they bring before we start "grading" them on performance that we haven't seen yet. Delete this thread it's pure speculation and IMHO not relevant at this time.UOducksTK1 wrote:duckduckgoose wrote:Based on what? Recruiting acumen? Prior job performance?UOducksTK1 wrote:OFFENSE

Re: Grade the coaching staff
Well they do have a track record to be fair. And like Phenom said, it's a message board. We can spend the entire offseason coming to this board with no content, or we could discuss something.nogerO wrote:HOW ABOUT WE GIVE THEM A CHANCE TO COACH BEFORE WE GRADE THEM?UOducksTK1 wrote:OFFENSE

OC/QB: Marcus Arroyo B+, I really like Arroyo, but there's some really good QB coaches out there. Plus I really liked Yost.srsmiley007 wrote:Pure speculation but the impression I have is:UOducksTK1 wrote:OFFENSE

OC/OL: Mario Cristobal A+, One of the best in the business. And the fact we pulled him from Alabama makes it even more special
TE: ?
RB: Donte Pimpleton C, Only been a RB coach and a D1 coach for two seasons. He has the least experience. Oregon has been known for their running game presence for a couple decades, so it's interesting that our least experienced hire comes at RB. I understand we can afford a homerun hire at every position, but it'll be interesting to see how our RBs develop under coach pimp!
WR: Mike Johnson A-, he's been out of college/NFL coaching for a while, so there may be a little rust. But once he gets into the thick of things, I think we'll greatly appreciate this hire. IMO the most underrated hire of everyone here.
DEFENSE
DC/LB: Jim Leavitt A, You can't ask for much better.
DL: Joe Salave'a A+, The poly connection is what adds the plus.
CB: Charles Clark A-, He will fit well with Leavitt. I think Clark after Johnson will show that he was a great hire.
Safety: Keith Heyward B+, He will fit well with Leavitt.
ST: Raymond Woodie C+, Like smiley said, he can recruit.

Re: Grade the coaching staff
RB is probably the one position you can hire an inexperienced coach and make it work out in the end. I mean, look at what the woefully inexperienced Pimpleton did last season with USFs backs. As long as Pimpleton can bring talent in, he'll be fine, also might be the coach who will stick with Taggart the longest.UOducksTK1 wrote:OC/QB: Marcus Arroyo B+, I really like Arroyo, but there's some really good QB coaches out there. How can you grade them on anything other than recruiting?

If we hired Nick Saban vs Lane Kiffin, would you not be able to grade each hire? And don't you think one would have a higher grade than the other?lmduck wrote:How can you grade them on anything other than recruiting?

Re: Grade the coaching staff
speculation is great for conversation here. At the end of the day if one of these coaches shows that
they are in over their head and that position is under performing its Taggerts job to fix that. But he
also hired them not only for recruiting but faith they could get the job done. On paper these coaches look
like a fantastic staff. Maybe the only one i dont know much about is Weist. Really have not done much
research to make a judgement on. Will start to get a good idea in the spring.
