Back to form

Post by duckfan22 »

Now that the ducks are practicing and games are close this place is waking up. We haven't been this excited and intrigued in a long time. New staff, new schemes it really is amazing.
Soon there will be during game melt downs, calls for coaches to be fired, arm chair qbs advising on what coaches are doing wrong. But that is football for us all. We may disagree but we're still duck fans.

To be fair, I think most are giving WT and his staff a year to get things going in the right direction. Things I'm looking for from the team this year.
1- A team that plays hard for 4 qrts, doesn't give up and aren't smiling when/if they are getting their heads bashed in.
2- A team that tackles, blocks and doesn't look soft out their and like they don't care
If the team plays that way, I'll be happy, because I have faith in Taggart to get this thing turned around.

I know it's still got a long ways to go, but in case you don't pay attention Oregon has the top ranked class right now on Scout. It's a beautiful thing, and they're a real chance we finish in the top 10.

^ To tackle well and not look soft, I think the main key is that our defensive players know what they're doing. I have zero doubts that Leavitt, Coach Joe, Heyward and Clark will make sure that our guys know exactly where they're supposed to be and putting them in the best spots. Last year, we had our MLB(Hotchkins) playing man coverage against John Ross(4.22).

I'm just really curious what WT's team translates to on the field. I'll definitely give him a year but I'm excited to see what there is to see with his team on the field.

Year 1- Be competitive. Make a bowl game.
Year 2- Win 2 more games than year 1.
Year 3- Compete for the Pac-12 crown.

I think last year's train wreck has made a few of us forget some players on this team played for the Natty not long ago. We are not that far removed from being a powerhouse and I don't think the rebuild will take long.

With the favorable schedule in year 2 do you think the ducks could compete for the PAC-12 crown in year 2? They will be young but should have a good schedule.

It's fun that recruiting is year-round now, too. With how things are going, I think the new early signing period will be a boon for Coach Taggart.

This looks like a team that will compete for the P12 championship?

I'll be satisfied with 6 wins and a bowl game with visible improvement on defense.

I think you might be underestimating how far down helfrich and pellum dragged this team down because of recruiting excitement

One injury away from a true freshman as the only qb on the roster

Depleted wr corps nearly all under 6'

Worst defense in CFB last year

Likely 10 true freshman will be forced to play significant minutes

At least 10 scholarships going unused this year

New coaching staff and scheme.

Only 2 scholarship tes

LB corps is still garbage outside of dye

It is that time of the year. Optimism always abounds before the season begins, including before last season.

If the Ducks look like a team that is giving maximum effort, start to establish some semblance of competency on the defensive side of the ball and make a bowl game, that will be a good enough first season of the Taggart Era in my eyes.

You forgot too RBs group in the PAC 12, and a top 3 OL. UO will lead the confrence in rushing this year, Royce WILL hit 1600+ yds and 18 TDs, and James will hit 1100 total yds. Schooler will go for 900 yds, Chuck 1000 total yds and 13 TDs. Our O will be back to averaging over 520yds and 41 Pts a game, all the negativity in the world won't change that.
