Wouldn't be surprised if they're going to wait until like year 2 or 3 (which would be after Herbert is gone) to renegotiate his deal so they don't get burned again like they did with Helf where his record was inflated due to having Marcus.

SEC revenue streams are also vastly superior to schools like Oregon State and Arizona State, thus the discrepancy.

With their media deals, bigger stadium sizes and fervent fanbases , they'll always have an advantage over the other P5 conferences.

Also that declining ETO clause (I swear it looks like a loyality clause you see in soccer contracts)

1st year 10M
2nd year 8M
3rd year 6M
4th year 4M
5th year 2M

Pretty clear this deal is set up to be renegotiated as of the 4th year, right before his buyout gets low.

If Oregon is averaging 10 win seasons at that point, it could get interesting.

Please tell me he isn't represented by Jimmy Sexton.

He just does what his clients want. We got a great deal with Cristobal.

BTW, I'm not sure who his agent is.

With the buy out for at least the next 3 years keeps him here unless
his teams dont perform. But its a win win for both. I really believe he gets a raise
in year 4. He seems sincere that he wants to be here. His passion and his toughness
i hope transfer to his players. He has at least earned their respect.

I realize that and I assume it isn't Sexton. If it is Sexton however, this contract being so good would almost guarantee post season shenanigans to get it more skewed for Mario.

Haven't all of our recent HC's received bowl game clauses that trigger an automatic 1 year extension?
