Class of 2019: Who Redshirts?

We are coming off signing a historically great class and are the favorites to win the conference. Who will be a contributor? Who will redshirt? Who will play 4 games or less and preserve their redshirt year?

2019 class:

This is harder to get right then it used to be.

Under the new rules we wont know until the 4th or 5th game who is not going to redshirt. Unlike in the past they have a chance to live audition if they are borderline. Some will be gamers and show better than in practice, some will go the other way.

I'll go out on a limb and say Kayvon wont redshirt.

First in. Bet I win!

For all you other prognosticators consider this.

Last year of the 10 highest rated recruits:
2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 8th, and 9th didn't log a year of eligibility.
1st, 6th, 7th and 10th played in 5 or more games

Others outside the top 10 who used a year of eligibility
18th
19th - Key player
20th
21st
24th

So the bottom 10 had a higher percentage play than the top 10.

Playing for sure:
KT(lock)
Pittman(lock)
Wright(lock)
Sala
Delgado
C. Lewis
Funa
Steele

Delgado and Steele probably the 2 I'm least sure about, but Delgado looked good all spring and Steele is going to probably play in dime and or special teams.

Maybe:
Sean Dollars(I think he's going to play on special teams and possibly get reps. I don't think any of our running backs is special right now. Verdell and Dye both went down far too easy many times last season and Cyrus doesn't have much quickness. Only question is if he can learn the offense in time to get early reps. Verdell also looked really good/improved in the spring game.

Jonah T.(Normally he'd be a shoe-in to play, but we have SO much depth and so many 4th and 5th year guys).

All the defensive linemen(Williams, Hudson, Poti), 1-2 of them are going to play, which they will compete for this fall. All will play in at least a couple games.

Rest of the WR's(Again, fall competition here). They'll all play in at least a couple games.

Eaford

Mathis

Bridges(thought ht was underranked, might play enough on special teams).

Redshirts:
Millen
Herbert
Dorlus
Townsend
Ma'ae
James

Herbert will play in at least a few games and maybe more if Breeland or McCormick gets hurt.

Agreed.

Also, I doubt Justin stuck around an extra year to not throw to his brother. I see the younger Herbert getting significant playing time against Montana & Nevada. He still may redshirt, but I think we'll see him in some early games.

Spencer Webb looked good in the spring game--might throw a wrench into that plan.

I think a pretty good list. I suggest a couple of changes:

Tauanu'u-- Will redshirt because of O-line depth
Wilhoite-- I switch in Waters to play.

I think ALL of these guys play a few games. Maybe not 4, but a few. Getting them reps doesn't hurt and won't burn their redshirt.

Some time, but not a lot.

Millen
Poti
Wilson
Townsend
Ma'ae[/quote]

I think Delgado and Pittman are both going to be contributors. It looks like the coaches love Delgado.

I’m not sure about Funa, we’ll have to see if he’s healthy.

I think that with 4 games to establish himself, Dollars will show to be worthy of a spot in the RB rotation this year. I really doubt he redshirts, given our lack of talent at RB.
