Will they censor fans from calling it the civil war?

They will need to come up with a clever name if they want people to accept the change. Though Civil War was never terribly original.

Good luck in trying to get people to refer it as anything other than the Civil War.

I'll still call it the Civil War, but if the Universities don't want to I don't get the point but, meh, whatever.

"a war between citizens of the same country."

Sounds like a pretty cool name to me for a sports in-state rivalry. But perhaps the word 'war' is offensive. Or perhaps people compare it to our American civil war, and don't like the outcome of that result (racists). Or perhaps there have been so many civil wars in history, that it reminds people of another one. I know every time I watch the Ducks and Beavers play a football game called the civil war, it immediately reminds me of my mom and her escaping the Iranian Revolution (Persian Civil War).

You'd think an institute of higher learning would know that there are lots of civil wars, not just the American Civil war.

Also, African Americans fought to win their freedom in the Civil War, which effectively ended legal slavery in the United States along with the emancipation proclamation and subsequent amendment.

They not teach history in school anymore?

Agreed. Should we not rename our streets after MLK because it reminds us of bad times in America?

They did the same thing taking the Deady building down. A dude who was anti-Chinese, anti-Black, and pro slavery in the 50s and some of the 60s, then changed his beliefs and actually fought for the rights of minorities the rest of his life (mid 60s until he died):
"In 1857 he was elected as delegate from Douglas County and served as president of the constitutional convention. He campaigned for the position as a supporter of slavery. Deady supported slavery because it was lawful. He did not consider applying morality to a public issue. The question of whether Oregon should be admitted as a slave or free state was passed to the electorate. They overwhelmingly rejected slavery.

Deady successfully advocated for provisions in law to set six-year terms for judges, four-year terms for state officers and biennial sessions for the legislature. Prominent in the Democratic Party, he was associated with the “Salem Clique” which virtually controlled state politics at this time.

In 1860, Deady moved to Portland. He prepared the act incorporating the city of Portland. This work soon became the model for acts of incorporation in Oregon towns. During the Civil War he was a strong supporter of the Union and later was associated with the Republican Party.

Deady later denounced violence against Chinese Americans during the 1870s and 1880s, even convening a grand jury to examine charging anti-Chinese crowds with criminal acts. These crowds were threatening violence against these minorities in an attempt to expel the immigrants from the state.

In Portland, Deady helped establish the University of Oregon’s law school. As the first public law school in the state, the University of Oregon School of Law opened in 1884 with an address by Deady. The school later moved to the main campus in Eugene."

I just saw people talking about this on 247, and thought it was lame that they took down Deady, because it showed an example of a man who changed his ways. Literally pro-legislation to keep blacks and Chinese out of Oregon, then fighting for their rights in front of a grand jury. Isn't this what we want now? People to reform from their ways of racism?

OSU fans, stating they are offended by the history of their football program, will now wipe clean the slate and officially start football from 2020. Any game they lose, will now just be an *, that way they can finish undefeated every year.
