My hat’s off

Post by Alan »

To Dan Lanning and staff for promoting the spring game, I couldn’t imagine it could be kicked up more then Kelly had it in the past. I love seeing home bring in past Duck greats as well a “just one of the guys” players. It’s gotta be good for recruiting, looking forward to some football.

He sure is fired up and not in a fake Taggert way. I will bet the players get fired up too.

I watched the Miami Spring game and after watching the Ducks…the energy was much higher at Autzen. Mario’s spring game looked lifeless and boring, many players seemed unenthusiastic. Lots of slow developing plays and sluggishness no the field with small yard plays and slow developing plays.

Ducks actually showed offensive and defensive excitement. Even more than top the first year of Cristobal tenure when there was a lot of juice. Players were running to the ball and the plays were quick and well executed.

Overall, the spring win seems to go to Lanning.

I may be biased, tho.

Estimated. Looked like about 30-35K to me. But I wasn't there just going off crowd shots. Still a good crowd. Teams here in the SEC and elsewhere sell out their stadiums for spring scrimmage...

ESPN has a pretty vested interest in USC being "back." It will be pretty nauseating to watch the coverage of them going forward.

Lanning is doing it right. Coach Brooks and LaMike both mentioned they were very happy that the past players, coaches, etc., were being included again. Not to hammer Mario, but evidently there was a disconnect. How can the re-connect not be a good thing?

Especially given the drama surrounding Lanning's hire and "the letter."

There has been a disconnect with former players for a lot longer than just Mario. None of the coaches since Bellotti made a big effort to include former players.

The media outlets are always going to be groupies of the USC and NDs. Putting them in much higher pre-season poll rankings because they are "storied" programs and sell subscriptions and hits. That's good for us when we beat them!

The previous coaches didn't really try to reconnect. But I believe Mario took a step up in reconnecting with local oregon high school programs and coaches and bringing back former players (mostly the top former ducks). Lanning has taking another big step up from Mario and brought and welcomed back all former players, regardless of if you were a good or mediocre player at Oregon.
