Re: Oh no...LA schools looking to leave for Big 10
I sense that just like with the $EC adding Texas A&M, that this is essentially just a ploy to open up the state of California (especially the fertile SoCal talent pool) to Big 10 recruiting even more. If Texas is back, as it appears to be with recruiting now under Sark, then tOSU and the other schools need to recruit well on the west coast because they're gonna struggle in Texas and the south.

Ohio produces the 4th most recruits. I’m not sure adding California really matters much to them.

Not a good look from UCLA as they said they haven't talked to Kliavkoff or anyone at the conference offices.
Plus it looks like no one else is leaving at the moment.

Can Oregon stay do an ACC Clemson? Win all their games and go to the playoff regularly. Not suggesting it but it could be an option.

No way will the pac 12 be a power 5 conference. We would be Cincinnati or UCF if we stay put.

If it’s true that Oregon isn’t joining the B1G that’s very disappointing. We can get mad at USC and UCLA but they made the right moves for themselves. If you want to get mad at someone get mad at Larry Scott and Mark Emmert, they’re to blame for college football turning into what it is today.

You might be right, but if the Rose Bowl is Big 10 vs Pac, and UCLA is in one or the other, it isn't necessarily dead yet.Duck07 wrote:They did it, they finally killed the Rose Bowl. Those bastards.
It feels like if the Oregon AD is aggressive, the U of O could cut a pretty good deal for itself to stay put, like Texas did for awhile in the Big 12. Otherwise, they could just enter the transfer portal. I have a feeling either way, Oregon is being paired with UW, which is sort of ironic.

In light of today's events, I suggest renaming the Civil War to the "Who Gives a **** Bowl."
Willie Taggart is a dick.

While Pac-12 schools were getting upset over the name of a football game, the Big Ten and SEC were busy winning games and championships while raking in massive amounts of money. Just shows where the priorities were.pezsez1 wrote:In light of today's events, I suggest renaming the Civil War to the "Who Gives a **** Bowl."

Re: Oh no...LA schools looking to leave for Big 10
Two other major concerns about this situation for Oregon.
1. Will it affect our current recruiting class? Also, could we have more players headed to the transfer portal to join other conferences?
2. Since Oregon wasn't officially invited by the Big-10, the conference could leverage that position and offer them less money. Whatever conference they end up in may use the same leverage. The Ducks and the rest of the conference are in an awful position now.
Here's another possibility. What are the odds that Oregon could become an Independent like Notre Dame? They could create a schedule of opponents from different conferences and also maintain rivalry games.

Re: Oh no...LA schools looking to leave for Big 10
The Playoff put an end date to the Rose Bowl, this just accelerated it. The B10 and SEC will want nothing to do with Bowl games as they'll likely try and work a Playoff system that benefits them most of all. Something where the B10/SEC champs get a 1st round bye, the Runner-ups play a game against the 2 At-large selections from everyone else. Or they'll expand it to 12 and do the same kind of thing and now the kids will play a full NFL schedule of games while pretending to take classes.Phalanx wrote:You might be right, but if the Rose Bowl is Big 10 vs Pac, and UCLA is in one or the other, it isn't necessarily dead yet.Duck07 wrote:They did it, they finally killed the Rose Bowl. One of the things that really blows about all of this is that half of the B10 and SEC are actually garbage teams that nobody gives a darn about. I know I get excited when I hear that Vanderbilt and Rutgers are going to play or Kentucky vs Purdue. Hell even Penn State hasn't done a damn thing in this millennium and everything about their program is tainted (Those good old glory days when the DC would....).
For the networks though all they need is a few playoff games that we all finally watch (because its the end of the season) and they'll go "look at those ratings, see how it was worth it."
About the only way the Pac and the ACC survive is to create their own Bi-Coastal league and make the Alliance actually something in writing where they schedule a bunch of intra-division games and have a unified Championship game. There are 14 ACC teams to 10 PAC teams so poaching a few Big 12 teams on the way over could work by creating a PAC West and SW to go with the ACC Atlantic and Coastal.
Yet Oregon State's President in her statement is concerned about finding other Tier 1 Research Institutions to join so we are likely headed towards dissolving the conference.

Looking way too far ahead, but ...
If USC/UCLA each want to continue playing against Stanford/Cal each year, that sets up a brutal schedule. While UM and tOSU eat cupcakes and fine tune their teams, USC/UCLA will be trying to avoid early season-ending upsets.

1 - Everything has an effect on recruiting and the transfer portal won't be slowing down any time soon. The current class is far less of an issue right now than the status of who and where we'll be playing in the future. Get left behind and all those highly ranked players will transfer out asap.SuperDuck wrote:Two other major concerns about this situation for Oregon.

2 - Independent status isn't on the table as even Notre Dame aligns itself with a Conference for scheduling. Our brand was/is anchored in part on our relation to our Conference, Notre Dame has a Catholic following that just isn't the same.
