UCLA BB players arrested in China

Post by greenyellow »

It looks like some UCLA hoops players, including LiAngelo Ball, were arrested for shoplifting from a Louis Vuitton store while in China for a game with Georgia Tech.

Definitely not somewhere you want to mess around. They don't care who you are and have the power to lock you up 15 days without trial. Haha.

Reports out saying they could get 3-10 years in jail depending on value of what was stolen (Louis Vitton isn't cheap stuff). Also, can be kept for 30 days before authorities even decide whether to prosecute. If they have video or found stolen goods in their hotel rooms they are in deep stuff.

Morning report says they've been released on bail to the team hotel.
Ball, Riley and Hill were released around 4 a.m. Wednesday and were staying at a luxury hotel in Hangzhou along with a UCLA representative, according to a source.?They are being required by Hangzhou police to remain at the hotel until the legal process is over, the source said.
Of course, loving father is always there with some brevity
Asked if he was worried about LiAngelo, LaVar said, "He'll be fine. He'll be fine. Everybody making it a big deal. It ain't that big of a deal."

I bet lavar feels pretty helpless now. In cn, no one knows or cares who he is. He got some really advice to not say anything to the press. Because if he did say anything offensive or ridiculous, as he often does, the cn govt is not very tolerable towards hearing anything they dont like and they wouldnt hesitate to make an example out of his son.
As long as they havent been sentence yet and the story isnt circulated by the local media too much, which can happen very fast or slow, there's still a price they could pay in return for a significantly reduced or no sentence at all.

Well I hope neither UCLA or the UC system is footing the bill for thier luxury hotel stay and all the room service I'm sure they'll consume.
