Going to be fun to see where Vegas puts the game. Ducks have some serious mojo right now. They aren’t just winning games, they are beating teams by 15+ each night.

And at this point it feels like we’re playing with house moneyEverythingsducky wrote:Going to be fun to see where Vegas puts the game. Ducks have some serious mojo right now.

Oregon played great for 32 minutes of the game against Irvine, but if they have another awful 8 minute stretch against Virginia like they did to open the second half against Irvine, I don’t think Oregon will come out on top. I’m sure Altman will be all over them to keep that from happening though. I think Oregon can certainly win this and move up to the Elite Eight.

UVA, from what I've read, is mostly a jump shooting team. They aren't dominant in the paint, and to me this plays right into our hands. If you want to play slow, not attack the rim much, our perimeter D will eat that up.

They've got players who can slash to the basket, and further, have size and athleticism to crash to the offensive glass. Okoro is going to be crucial.buckmarkduck wrote:UVA, from what I've read, is mostly a jump shooting team. They aren't dominant in the paint, and to me this plays right into our hands. The Cavaliers are definitely Guard heavy, DeAndre Hunter, 15.2 PPG, 52.9%FG, 44,8% 3's, Kyle Guy, 15.1 PPG, 45.4% FG, 43.9% 3's, Ty Jerome, 13.0 PPG, 43.8 % FG, 40.0% 3's. They shoot 47.8% FG, 40.9% 3's as a team.StevensTechU wrote:They've got players who can slash to the basket, and further, have size and athleticism to crash to the offensive glass. If we had to play a #1 I'd rather play Virginia than any other. We need to really pump up the "No #12 seed has ever beaten a #1" theme.
I know it's going to come down to the players but I'd really love for Dana to out-coach Bennett in this one and have the Cav's looking confused at times.

Now up to 8 or 8.5, which means the initial action is on Virginia's side. I'd say the eye test over the first weekend suggests it should be lower, but if you just look at 1 versus 12 it should be a hefty spread.Tray Dub wrote:Virginia opens as a 7.5 point favorite.

Looking at schedules Virginia and Oregon have 1 apponent in common, Wisconsin. Virginia won 7 I believe it was 46 - 53 Oregon won by 18 it was 54 - 72 if you are looking for positive signs that would be a good one imo

At this point, talent isn't a huge differentiator between teams. Match-ups (and who has a good day) will decide who wins. So that said, who wants to take a stab at how these teams match up?

Virginia has 3 guards that dominate the ball and all can shoot. Great from 3. A zone doesn't seem to be the best idea against them but with the 3 guards in the starting line up & for most of the game, man to man doesn't seem to fit.
Oregon would benefit if they could get the game uptempo; Virginia is ball control efficiency. They average 9.0 TO's a game, shooting 48%. If Oregon can keep the ball moving like they have it would definitely help. Virginia's D is similar in style to their offense; one player averages more than 1.0 steals per game, and the blocks leader is 1.5. They don't have anybody like Wooten at the rim or Amin in the passing lanes.

Our perimeter D has been pretty good. If Wooten stays out of foul trouble and can clean up inside, I think we have a chance.
