I maintain Wooten didn't make a mistake. If you're not going to ever get drafted -- this year or the next or the next -- and your game is predicated entirely on elite athleticism that won't be there on the other side of 30, you've got to earn when you can. He only has a handful of g-league/overseas paychecks in him.

King is unfortunate because I do think he had a real opportunity to vault up draft boards with a good sophomore year. His skill set seems so perfect for the modern NBA.

Bol... I mean, ESPN mentioned several times last night that his camp had speculated he was going to drop. THAT FAR? Probably not, I can't imagine they thought he'd tumble into the second round. Bol was always going to be a one-and-done, that decision was made well before he ever got to Eugene, but the risk of him theoretically coming back is that if he gets hurt again, that might be it for him.

I really hope Bol Bol is able to stay healthy. The reports about his degenerative knee condition combined with big guy foot problems sound serious. The Nuggets got as great of a flyer as you can get in the second round.

Lou King got bad advice, he really would have benefited from another year. He could have been a big time scorer this upcoming season, but the rumors are he had personality red flags. Teams will ignore those for enough talent, but not when you're still a raw-ish prospect with injury concerns.

Kenny Wooten? I have no idea what he was thinking. And to those who were saying he wouldn't have been drafted in the future... He was a projected late 1st/early 2nd round pick for 2020. Wooten had the potential to improve, his leaping ability is crazy - but weak side defense and oops are all he was bringing to the table. Jordan Bell improved his perimeter defense, off ball movement, and passing every year. If Bell left after his sophomore year he would have never been drafted, and now he's a solid rotation NBA player that will get a nice second contract.

Wooten was Jordan Bell 2.0

Bell would not have been drafted after his soph year but was a fringe 1st rounder after his JR year. I think same could have been said for Wooten. We all knew that King and Wooten should have stayed but nothing we can do about it now.

Wooten was never going to be Bell. Not close.

he tweeted New York Knicks, so I'm guessing he's going to be on their summer league team

Yup King made a huge mistake. Would have been crazy cool had all 3 guys come back, ha! Oh well.

Looks like Kenny got a contract. 50K if he doesn't get cut. Major gamble on himself.

These kids get some terrible from people who don't lose it all if they are wrong. Wooten will.have a hard time making a nba roster, his O just isn't there. At least he will always have Europe

You don't need to be an offensive threat to find your time at the end of the bench. He offers an elite shot-blocking presence, which in some situations is really important during the course of a game, even if he offers just a body on offense. The majority of rosters are filled with players who don't start, and many on the bench rarely play significant minutes. Even if he never offers an offensive presence, he has a high chance of sticking because he can develop a niche skill that many teams find useful in itself. A LHP who can only throw one inning and is only effective versus lefties is still incredibly valued even if that's all he does. Granted, rule changes are happening in baseball which will change this somewhat, but the point stands. He has a real chance to stay in the league because he has shown elite shot-blocking ability/athleticism and he has the size and length to still be effective with it at the NBA level.

Just about everyone has elite athleticism in the NBA. The NBA has changed. Players who can't dribble, pass, & shoot will have a hard time sticking.

Yup, agree. It’s not like he can stick a 3 when called on. How often is a limited offensive player called on to block, or re-direct shots, for a limited amount of time in today’s NBA? If you can shoot, but suck at defense, you still have a place. But to specialize in rebounding and shot blocking, limits your player life, and options. With the salary cap, coupled with today’s game, he may only get a sniff, until he develops some semblance of an offensive game. Today’s NBA rosters don’t stack defensive specialists, unless they have at least a minor ability to score from other than lobs. McGee in LA is a freak, and much taller, not even a good comparison, for those that wish to argue.
