MBB Fight to the finish UPDATE: 3/1

Post by Merganzer »

Right now, Oregon is tied with Colorado in 1st place at 9-4. Ducks have 2 games on the road, @ ASU, @ Arizona, and close it out with 3 at home against, OSU, Cal & Stanford.

Colorado, 9-4, has home games coming up against USC & UCLA, than finish @ Cal, Stanford & Utah.

Arizona & ASU are both 8-4 and have home games against Oregon & OSU, on the road at UCLA & USC, and finish with home games against UW, WSU.

UCLA & USC are both 8-5. They are at Colorado & Utah, home against, Arizona & ASU, and end with USC @ UCLA.

The schedule looks pretty good for Colorado.

I'd be happy with a split against ASU/Arizona. No reason we couldn't win those last 3.

Agreed. Would think 4-1 gets them a share of the regular season title but its tough to say...could 3 or 4 teams finish tied in 1st? It seems possible...
Stewart Mandel-"From a purely aesthetic standpoint, I much prefer to watch a good spread-rushing offense over a traditional Power-I offense, and Oregon's has been the most fun by far for the past several years. It's fast, its precise, and when Chip Kelly has the right quarterback (Dixon, Masoli) at the helm, the possibility of someone ripping off a 60-yard run exists on nearly every play."

Wouldn't shock me to see UA win out, even if we go 4-1...but 4-1 SHOULD be good enough to at least get a split.

Key as always is to get a 1-4 seed. Last year isn't the norm in terms of playing that extra game.

Yeah, it's likely that tie breakers will be needed to sort out the top 4 and probably beyond.

Arizona, 9-5, @ USC, & Utah, home to Washington & WSU; and of course, the Ducks, 10-5, home against OSU, Cal & Stanford.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if ASU loses 3 of their final 4 games.

Absolutely, UCLA is hot, since losing to the Ducks, they're 7-1 in conference games, the loss? @ ASU.

With the Ducks holding the tie breaker over UCLA & Arizona, we're fans of the Bruins & Wildcats the rest of the way.

Two-team tie:
•a. Each team’s record (won-lost percentage) vs. the team occupying the highest position in the final regular standings, and then continuing down through the standings until one team gains an advantage.

The following is based on Oregon running the table:
To make it simple, Colorado needs to lose 1 and ASU needs to lose two more games to avoid the tie breaking plan,(above). Might as well get it started with the Bruins beating the Sun Devils in LA tomorrow night. Colorado has, @ Cal, Stanford & Utah.Oregon has the tie breaker over Arizona & UCLA.

Things are going perfectly so far. The Fighting Hurley's have taken their first step towards a hopeful end of the season collapse.

Hopefully, SC just beat Arizona, might as well beat the Sun Devils too. Arizona vs UCLA, Bruins are hot. Colorado shouldn't have lost to Cal, and now they're at Stanford.

If we win out and either UCLA also wins out or ASU loses a game, we get the 1-seed in the conference tournament

Here's why: if all three teams win out, we win the tiebreaker because we're 2-1 against UCLA and ASU, ASU is 2-2 against UO and UCLA, and UCLA is 1-2 against UO and ASU. If only UO and UCLA win out, we win because we beat them head-to-head.

However, if UO and ASU win out and UCLA doesn't, it's hard to predict who wins the tiebreaker. It'll go to each team's record against the team(s) immediately below them, and it's hard to say who might occupy that position.
