Looks like Kelly Graves will be sticking around for a little while longer.

This is good news. The way he was praising Stanford the other day had me a little worried. Why would he admit to Stanford being the best team when he was coaching at Oregon in the future. If you are a great coach you should be able to win at Oregon. Especially with someone like Sabrina boosting the recruiting.

That's how coaching and motivation works! It has nothing to do with how Graves feels about his chances against Stanford in the future...

Why would he tout Stanford as the best team?
1) Losing to #1 doesn't hurt you in the rankings much...
2) Playing #1 tough makes you look good (so far no one has played Stanford better this year)...
3) He can tell his players they can play with #1 with a straight face (critical for team confidence)...
4) If they beat Stanford in the next game, the narrative will be that 'Oregon took some time to gel, but are now on par with the best teams in the country...
5) It perpetuates the Pac-12 as being the best conference in the country...
6) It eases the sting of losing...
7) It avoids bulletin board material for Stanford for the next meeting...
8) It increases the pressure on Stanford as the season goes on...

Saying Stanford is anything but the best team in the country would be an idiotic thing for any coach to say following a loss to #1 Stanford.
Stewart Mandel-"From a purely aesthetic standpoint, I much prefer to watch a good spread-rushing offense over a traditional Power-I offense, and Oregon's has been the most fun by far for the past several years. It's fast, its precise, and when Chip Kelly has the right quarterback (Dixon, Masoli) at the helm, the possibility of someone ripping off a 60-yard run exists on nearly every play."

9) Stanford is the best team in the country. (the old telling it like it is thing.)

You seem very hung up on this typical coach speak. Congrats on being the first poster with the crazy, unrealistic expectations for the women's team. It's been fun watching the number of such posters increase for football and MBB over time with sustained success, so looking forward to watching that develop over time for WBB. Happy to be able to catch it at Patient Zero!
