For what we pay him we should be reaching the CWS a little more often IMO.

Re: We suck
That Arizona series was the worst I can remember in the last few years... Just awful. Hopefully we can bounce back though.

Re: We suck
sure. and he's also won 138 games the past three seasons, which is top 5 nationally. it's not as if we are getting nothing in return on that investment.

He's underaceived, but for some reason he gets zero heat for it. He needs to get some offense asap, I'm tired of small ball. Why play that way, when you get a metal bat? Go recruit some kids that can hit.

I'd expected at least one trip to the college World Series at his point.oregontrack wrote:i would say this is the first year we've underperformed.

eh. the college baseball playoffs are the most volatile of any of the college postseasons. it's such a cluster expecting anything out of that field is a dangerous game.
i think 2012 and 2013 showed that the model is fine. the injury situations surrounding irvin and krook have sabatoged the last two years. those guys get you to omaha. thorpe and a valiant job by jeff gold of performing above his means kept us afloat last year, but it has obviously come crashing down this season.

We should have made it to Omaha 3 years ago but got unlucky that Kent St went on an absolute tear.

Re: We suck
yeah. and in the two games we lost, altobelli hit a would-be walk-off RBI screamer to the deepest part of left center, and the kent state fielder made a stunning (credit where credit is due) over the shoulder diving catch. that ball travels an extra inch, ducks win game one, and jake reed closes the door in game two. and then we famously lost game three on that damn bloop single.... baseball is just funny.
oregon state had probably the best rotation I've seen in twenty years of following college baseball last year, probably the two best offensive bats in the conference, years of top notch recruiting up and down the lineup, and lost in their own regional. such a chaotic postseason.
