How it Happened: Oregon (21-26, 4-15) was unable to take advantage of a bases-loaded, no-out situation in the top of the first inning, and then fell behind in the bottom half as Utah scored two runs on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch and an RBI single. Cherish Burks helped limit the damage on the single, throwing a second runner out at the plate from left field.
Notable: Oregon was forced to play without its two leading hitters, center fielder Haley Cruse and shortstop Jasmine Sievers, as both were out with injuries, and Bowden left the game in the fifth inning with an apparent injury.
What it Means: The Ducks must now win their final five games of the regular season to reach .500 and become eligible for the NCAA Tournament. Oregon will play two more this weekend against the Utes before hosting Arizona State next weekend at Jane Sanders Stadium.

Re: SB: Oregon @ Utah (Fri-Sun)
If they don't have those 3 playing the rest of the series, I'm not sure Oregon has enough firepower to get a win, even against lowly Utah.

year
It would be extremely difficult to win out. Been a tough year and hasn't gotten any better.

Ducks take game two 9-4 behind 5 doubles, with both Cid and Bunker hitting 2 each.

With all the adversity this year and now two of the top hitters out, these girls just keep scrapping. Two walkons, who hadn't done much all year come through with hits. That was Howard's 1st hit in 23 at bats. It would be fitting if they could win out and make post season. I just don't see it. But, it's not over until it's over.

I agree, Teams talk about facing adversity; no Oregon team since I've been following them has been dealt more than has this team. New coach, walk-oms, enough to fill a roster, 1 pitcher, The feeling that not only are you starting from scratch, but are the team that ended the elite run Oregon had been on. All that and the team seems to be having fun playing softball. The crowds aren't what they used to be, but The Jane is not collecting dust this season.

Utes run rule the Ducks, 11-3. The Ducks led 3-0 until the bottom of the 4th, when the Utes scored 6; they followed that up with 2 in the 5th & 3 in the 6th, without a home run, ( 2 doubles, 4 triples). The Ducks had 1 home run & 4 errors.
