As expected, George Horton will not be returning to coach the Oregon baseball program. Grateful that he got the program started but he just could never find that magic/energy he had in those early years.

It had to happen; this was a good way for it to have been done.

Obviously we were hoping for a much better tenure than it turned out to be. Best of luck to him at his next stop.

Not a cinderella ending but he was always a classy guy.
I guess his option to return was there, but he decided it's best to just move on and the university accepted it.

It was a mutual option and most believe this plan was set up last year but I think the UO was letting him announce and save some face rather than be fired.....anyway, moving forward

I'm definitely hoping for Checketts. College baseball is such a funny sport, though -- I imagine UO could pay him more, but I think UCSB might be the better job. So I don't think it's a slam dunk by any means.

It was a lot of fun for the first half of his career here, but the second half wasn't pretty. Makes sense.. We'll see if Oregon can get back on the map in baseball.

Could the Oregon Ducks search for a baseball coach to replace George Horton start and end in ... Corvallis?
Well, why not? Oregon State’s coaching situation is in flux.

Going from Corvallis to Eugene would be an awkward move in some respects, but it’s hardly unprecedented.
Rich Brooks, the guy who as much as anyone set the foundation for the modern era of UO football, was a lifelong Beaver who played for OSU and was a defensive line coach and defensive coordinator under the Great Pumpkin, OSU legend Dee Andros.

If Casey had any desire to coach, he'd just go back to Oregon State.

Looks like USC has let their baseball coach go so there may be some competition for a couple potential candidates:
