R-G article confirms

what we all assumed... Seiferth is history, and the academic ratings are going to hurt for a while.

It does note that the ratings were slipping somewhat before all the departures related to coaching change.

“It is a concern,” Altman said. “It’s more transition than we would like.”

Altman’s teams at Creighton also had positive reports on academics throughout his tenure, in most cases exceeding the totals Oregon posted under Kent, which were high enough to challenge or surpass Stanford in some years.

“Players left for various reasons,” Altman said. “You hope guys are in a situation where everybody likes where they’re at, but it isn’t always that way.

“If you go back the last two years, those were bad years (at Oregon). This year isn’t as bad, but it’s not good either. We know that.”

Altman said that as his tenure as the head coach continues, “we want things to settle down,” but he recognizes there will be some unflattering academic reports coming up because of the recent loss of players. It’s a factor that could be used by opposing coaches in recruiting, much as the Ducks used favorable reports to augment their recruiting pitch under Kent.

“We’re going to have to deal with a couple of negatives there,” Altman said, “but we’ll get through it.

“All we can do is continue to stress to our players that they need to work on academics, that that is something that’s very important to us and should be for them, and then good things will happen.”

Makes sense, and we all assumed it would happen, but my goodness do all these departures lead to loss of scholarships? It would also appear that DA plans to sign no more players so the few we were looking at, and getting excited about, aren't coming!

I really don't think Oregon should be dinged by a loss of scholarships. The NCAA needs to change the APR so that it can take into consideration a coaching change that leads to multiple transfers and transfer who end up graduating from the their new school. The current system just doesn't leave any wiggle room if there are major changes within a program.

I agree that a school should not be hurt by losing a player to transfer. If that is the case, why aren't they helped by adding a transfer?
