91 Shooting Guards

Post by Zyme »

1991 top 5 Shooting Guards:
Latrell Sprewell C+ C+ C B C A

The swingman out of Alabama may be the most complete player in this draft if Motombo wasn't hoggin' the spotlight. Defensive beast, he has quick hands and, he wasn't 6'5", the skills to play both forward and center positions. He excels closing out and playing down low, but struggles when he gets put into transition and off of ball screens. His wingspan is favorably compared to a California Condor and has huge upside. Scouts love his demeanor and believe that outside Motombo is probably the most sure thing in this draft.

Steve Smith C B C+ C C- A

This kid can ball. Tall and fierce, Smith was far and away the deadliest sniper in Big 10 last year. He hoisted up over 200 three pointers last year and made 96 of them. His buzzer-beating three was the deciding factor in Michigan State's 88-86 win in the round of 32 before and led his team to the elite 8 where they were splattered by UNLV. He has a great first move and has a killer step back fade that draw a lot of similarities to Dana Barros. Scout drooled over his outside stroke, in the gym range.

Vincenzo Esposito B- C+ C C C B

Between He and Žan, one of the few non re-imports into the league. He has been playing since turning pro at age 15 in the top FIP league. He gained the nickname "Il Diavolo" during his time at home due to his frenetic playing style that bordered on reckless. He outfought, out worked and ran his opponents into submission. He has a very good looking mid range game, but even with the favorable 3 pt line, he never could consistently get the shot to go. Even though he has been playing in the top leagues for nearly a decade now, scouts love to tap the reservoir they saw scouting this games and think if the right coach can instill a semblance of discipline or even metered aggression into his game, he could become a very good pro.

LaBradford C+ C C C+ C A

LaBradford Smith lead his Lousville squad in scoring, but could only do so much by himself. Never really got any help and never made the the NCAA tourney. Has a chiseled physique and posted the top time in the shuttle run at the combine. He has very good hands on defense and very good at fighting through screens and performed well even when switched onto some of the larger SFs. Despite being 6'3", he played like he was another half as large inside. Scouts drooled over his body-builder's frame and his gym-rat attitude.

Sean Green C+ C+ D+ C+ C- B

Outside of Smith, probably the most effective long-range stoke in college basketball last year. It might have been a little flat he has a very quick release and as he stepped further out, the natural arc becomes perfect.

Other Shooting Guard Prospects:

Myron Brown C C- C C C A

Very good at handling the ball, this combo guard is Point Guard Eligible. Very good rebounding for his position. Solid but not exceptional potential

Kevin Lynch C B C C+ C- A

Very good looking outside game, he loves to use his quick trigger to get off the mid-range shot and has a very clean release from 3. Shies away from the paint.

Rodney Monroe C+ C C- B- D A

Physical specimen. He only started playing baseball in college, but has exceptional measurables.

Bobby Philis B D+ C- C+ D+ A

Very strong and wowed with highlight dunks all season long. Couldn't make a 3 if his life depended on it.

Steve Overton C C+ C B- D- B

Maybe the most undersized of the shooting guards in this draft but easily the quickest. His combo of pace and change of direction speed is unmatched and very comfortable shooting off the dribble from 15-8 feet.

I like that we have our first player in the league that is only known by one name. Before there was Nene there was LaBradford.
