92 Centers

Top 5 1992 Centers:

Alonzo Mourning B- C C- B- B- A

Few have had a season like Mourning had. With the exception of one game against a very tough St. Johns, Zo had a double double every game. He took his Hoyas to the final four where he got beaten by the 1-2 punch of Hill and Laettner. Despite this unfortuante bad matchup, Zo was by far the best center in the NCAAs, while O'Neal was better in flashes and had bigger games Zo was a machine. Many feel that Alonzo might take a while to get going, but few doubt where he will end up. Whomever is lucky enough to draft him will lock down the post for over a decade.

Oliver Miller C C- D+ B- B A

The man in the middle for the Arkansas razerbacks. While the SEC was filled with many great posts, including O'Neal, nobody in the nation held down the post quite like Miller. Every single ounce of his 6'9" 300+lb frame goes into his craft on the defensive side of the ball. He held Shaq to his lowest numbers of the season of 8/6 on 2/15 shooting. He is a tank and knows how to use his weight to apply leverage on defense but does not quite know how to do the same on offense. While he may be undersized, scouts still think his best pro position may be C but his size might force him down the PF.

P.J. Brown C+ C D+ B C+ A

Defensive mid-major stud out of Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. He lived up to his teams mascot in a big way. He walked away with hi conference player of the year and the Lou Henson Mid-Major player of the year. Averaged 17/10/2 this season in a great campaign for his senior season. He know how to use his body effectively and his footwork both offensively and defensively is very very good. Many scout question his experience at a smaller school but he performed very well at the combine, grading out very well against both Christian and Zo.

Matt Geiger C+ C- D- B- B- B

In a class filled with solid defensemen in the post, Geiger was easily the most pro-ready player at the combine. He get around screens very well and recovers well when he gets picked. Geiger showed very quick hands throughout Georgia Tech's run to the elite eight. Makes a point to play straight up and doesn't gamble, never seeming to be in foul trouble. Scouts think he still has plenty of room to build on his frame.

Melvin Robinson C+ C+ D+ C+ C+ B

Another solid mid Major prospect out of the university of Saint Louis Dons. He know how to play both on the high post, down low and loves to drift further and further out as the game goes along until he is banging home the 3 ball an creating acres of space for his teammates inside. Very quick for a big man and disruptive on both the offensive and defensive boards. A little of a flabby 280 lb seven footer. He struggled a bit with fitness but if he hist the weight room effectively he should shape into a solid pro.

Other 1992 Center prospects:

Elmore Spencer C+ D F+ B C+ B

Very disruptive on the defensive block. He looks like he playing volleyball at time as he take a giddy pleasure spiking the ball into the fifth row. Scout do not like his approach to the free throw line, but had a nice bag of tricks when finishing on the weak side. Decent potential but not exceptional.

Chris Havlicek- C+ C C- C+ C+ A

Son of the great Celtic John Havlicek out of the university of Virginia. Really good on the high post and probably the 2nd best high post player behind Laettner. Really solid bloodline and if his father was any indication, he should prove a very solid professional.

Gheorghe Muresan C+ C- D- C+ C+ B

A young up and comer out of the Soviet Republic of Romania. He played the Romanian side: CS Universitatea MCN. Few scouts made the trek out to view his game but those that did reported that he was raw, yet showing flashes of class against more developed centers. At 7'7", one scout that watched him play mentioned that if he can figure out how use his size or even just grow into it, he will find a place in a rotation.

Sean Rooks C+ D+ D+ C+ B- B

Starter out of the university of Arizona. While his team suffered an ignominious 1st round exit to 14th seeded East Tennessee State University, Rooks played his heart out with a twenty/twenty game. If he can develop his rebounding, he will be on a roster for many many years to come.

Reggie Smith C F+ C+ C B- A

Another solid rebounder in a class filled with them. played very well for the SWC Texas Christian Horned Frogs. While he doesn't have a huge amount of moves on the low block, on either side of the ball, but his rebounding ability is first rate. Very good potential but needs work hard to fill in his game. His rebounding and great potential will keep him on a roster.
