2006 C

Paul Milsap C+ C D+ B- C+ A

The young man out of Louiasana Tech may be undersized but he has a motor that outworks everyone. He makes up for his size by having a very polished fade from the post which allows him to score despite giving up four five or even eight inches against some match-ups he will see. He has adequate footwork boxing out on both sides of the court. Great range on the post, even has one of the better outside shots in this class. You would think he would be better than his compatriots at the combine given his relatively smaller stature but he seems to only posses average lateral movement on the court. Very quick hands, he caught more than a few taller players unawares when they brought the ball down trying to back him down. Scouts love his upside and think he could be a very balanced offensive weapon.

Ryan Hollins C C C B- C+ B

Outstanding defensive post out of Cali. Most scouts think that if he can live up to his potential you are looking at the most balanced defender in the class. He does a little of everything. Rebounding wise he anchored the Cal defense to a defeat in the semis of the Pac 10 tourney and a sweet sixteen exit in the tourney. Offensively, well best we not talk about his offense. Very quick for his size and had one of the best shuttle times in recent years for centers.

Cheikh Samb C+ C C- C+ C+ C

The giant out of Spain measures a well over seven feet and is one of the bigger question marks in this center class. He is a beast on the drills, destroying the bench press and finishing second to Hollins in the shuttle run. He played for the second division outfit CB Cornellà and posted an impressive 12/12/3 through domination of the offensive boards. While this was enough to earn him all league there are a lot of question marks around him. For starters he played at an extremely low level and despite playing very well, seemed to play down the competition. He moves very on offense and can back it down well in the post but seems to struggle to know what to do next. Scouts don't know what to make of him and hence have marked him with C potential.

Patrick O'Bryant B- C C C C+ A

Another small school post, this time out of Bradley. O'Bryant owned his conference from the low block, having an excellent set of skills and the strength to execute them. He has an unlimited motor on the offensive boards and led his team to the tourney and a first round exit at the hands of the Golden Bears. Solid lateral quickness and getting off of screens, his biggest problem is he does not have the best footwork and this limits his ability to keep his great strength in good leverage positions. Not a risk at all from the free throw line as well, scouts love his excellent upside.

Joel Freeland C+ C D- C C+ C

Hailing from jolly ol Surry England, Joel is someone who was hailed as the great hope of UK basketball. From the time he turned pro at 16, he was on every u18 watch list and all of Europe wanted to sign him at one point. Once he made it with a very large contract, for a u18, with Malaga in Spain, he struggled. The top level of competition seemed to stifle his development and scouts are very concerned that he may have been stunted by being promoted too much too quickly. He has a good looking jump shot from midrange, but down low scout think he tries to use his strength and athleticism rather than his mind and becomes vulnerable to being stripped. Thankfully despite most of these negatives he does posses solid, albeit unspectacular, footwork.

Millsap as a center? I mean.... I guess it works but even coming out of college I thought he was strictly a 4, and is now in real life more of a 3/4.

Definitely a strange placement for him.

That is one ugly class of centers.
