Is it lack of talent or poor coaching? It seems like our recruiting rankings have been pretty good right?

The problem is that they've lost a lot of their top guys to the Draft and those who show up are the less talented ones, meaning the class ranking isn't as high. That problem was then compounded by Horton's staff not exactly coaching the guys up enough.
definitely nice to get the split, especially after the way the first two games went. i won't come rushing to judgment after one start each, but we have to get more out of peterson and mercer.
on the positive side, cole stringer and slade heggen each look like a rarity in this program: sophomores who improve upon their freshmen seasons.
also on the positive side, kenyon yovan (both at the plate and on the mound) and a slew of freshmen relievers all looked really good. our two freshmen position players -- mccullough and steer -- combined to go 2/27, so that's not good, but overall i liked what the freshmen brought. lord knows they'll all need to contribute to make up for a lack of talent in the other classes.
