You didn't say it only about Lillard, you also said it about McCollum, and really, I can't think of a more parallel situation than Toronto, a team who has a hard time signing free agents and who signed their guard to a max deal the exact same time as McCollum for nearly the exact same amount.oregontrack wrote:if you're referring to what i said about lillard, the situations are quite different. i'm not positive derozan is an all star next year in the west, i consider him closer to CJ than dame on the talent spectrum. (just wanted to clarify, if that indeed was what you were referring to)
i like the trade for both sides. i hope leonard pulls his head out of his ass and participates at his usual high level this year, toronto could be quite good.
A few quotes by way of a refresher:
"your ideas are so outside the norm -- not a single GM in the association would have let lillard or 3J walk away, everyone would have signed them to those deals -- it's kind of hard to respond to, honestly."
"we sure do know what other GM's would have done. we have 30 years of free agency history to tell us that everybody locks up their talented young franchise point guard. for a team that cannot attract talent, you don't throw away young all stars when they fall to you in the draft and want to be here.
like i said, i can live with all your criticisms save the ones you go after extending lillard and 3J. i share many of those same criticisms. i criticize olshey for TRYING (and thankfully failing) to offer a max to chandler parsons. but balking at 3J and especially lillard is absurd to the point of lunacy."
Ujiri just stated that DeRozan is the best player ever to play for the Raptors (sorry, Vince!). He was an All Star guard, and he badly wanted to be in Toronto and was signed for the next three years, but the GM just threw him away for a one-year rental on a guy who doesn't want to be there and might even sit out part of the season. Heck, he even paid a draft pick to make that deal happen. Absurd to the point of lunacy!
