Tough 8-7 loss for Oregon as they took the lead in the T8 but then gave up 2 HRs in the B9.

Monday night may have been one of the three worst losses Oregon has had since bringing baseball back. The Ducks are still alive for the postseason but they need to collect as many wins as they can the rest of the way, and they blew a 9th inning lead to a San Jose State team that had lost 10 in a row.

Hard to put into words just how awful this bullpen is, or where exactly the team would be if it could hold a lead. Part of the problem involved injuries to the starting rotation -- a few guys have been forced into starting jobs, further weakening a shallow bullpen -- but over the 4-day weekend Ryne Nelson, our supposed closer and a guy people say will be taken in the top 2 rounds of the draft next month, blew two 9th inning save opportunities.

The offense is as good as it's ever been under Horton, and the starting pitching (IMO) has done enough to make it to the postseason. It's struggled at times, sure, but we're throwing guys who really shouldn't be weekend starters in a major conference and they're battling/giving the team an opportunity to win more often than not. But this bullpen. Good Lord.
