Potential MBB transfer additions

Post by greenyellow »

With Oregon striking out on so many HS recruits in the 2020 class and them still on the waiting of the off-chance someone like Ziaire Williams or Jalen Green picks the Ducks, it looks like Altman is checking out some potential transfers (both grad and non-grad) to fill two of the remaining spots for next year's team. So far, they're connected to Louisville G Darius Perry and Wichita State G Erik Stevenson.

Probably best to get a start if we really do have some defections again. Perry is a graduate transfer but never really fit into Chris Mack's system. Stevenson is a sophomore guard from Lacey, Washington who averaged 11 points and around 5 rebounds a game. But I guess had issues with Greg Marshall as the season went on. (his dad seems to be a real handful) Arizona has also contracted Stevenson among the other teams. So anyway. Transfer season has begun!

Another name that popped up is Virginia Tech F Landers Nolley. He'd have 3 years left after transferring. Most expect Texas A&M to be the favorite since he signed with Buzz Williams at VT and then almost transferred there this past off-season.

Yeah, defections, you never really know.

Also just a quick note, we will add in Eric Williams Jr. and Eugene Omoruyi as guys who sat out this year. Both are really solid rebounders and defenders.

Williams is a decent shooter(37% from 3) as well.

Roster in theory will be:

Guards:
Will Richardson
Jalen Terry
Chris Duarte
Eric Williams Jr.
Addison Patterson(loved how he played at the end of the season).
Lok Wur

Posts:
Eugene Omoruyi
Chandler Lawson
Francis Okoro
CJ Walker

Wur and Walker would seemingly be the most likely transfers to me. I could see Duarte going pro too to play in Europe or his home DR, but that's less likely.

N'faly Dante, I just don't know where he's at. He had an even weirder year than Bol Bol. In theory, he should come back like the kid from Kansas did this year and he'll be a lottery pic in 2021. However, with his home situation, I wouldn't blame him for wanting that paycheck ASAP.

Remember watching videos of him on Instagram working out while he was rehabbing. I was like, "Well. At least with Bol Bol we got a few Youtube clips to prove he was here."

I think this is a pretty good assessment.

Here is my best guess for the starting 5 next season:
Will Richardson
Eric Williams Jr.
Addison Patterson
Eugene Omoruyi
Chandler Lawson

Reserves:
Francis Okoro
Jalen Terry
Lok Wur
+ a couple new transfers

I hope I am wrong with these guesses:
Duarte just had a kid in Florida, so my guess is he leaves to try and earn some money.
CJ Walker seems like a candidate to transfer. He seemed like he was frustrated a lot of the year.
Agree with you about Dante. He is probably gone. Even $30k in the development league changes his family's life.

UNLV G Amauri Hardy is the latest transfer that has Oregon has checked in on. Many expect him to go strongly consider Kentucky due to his brother being a 5* recruit with strong Kentucky leanings.

Some new names are being linked to Oregon. First player is Wichita State G Jamarius Buton, who averaged 10.3 ppg last season. Long Beach State C Joshua Morgan, who averaged 8.4 ppg and 6.1 rpg, is the other new one.

Transfer update: Kentucky transfer Johnny Juzang has put Oregon in his Top 6. But most likely won't come since he hasn't visited before (and can't.) Plus he is looking for a school closer to home in Cali. Wichita transfer Erik Stevenson is expected to sign with the Fuskies and go home as well. The Ducks are also tracking Rhode Island transfer Tyrese Martin.

But of all the ones I hope we get, Estrada is top of my wish list. Dude can ball.

Yeah...he looks like he can play!
I love Altman's new strategy of taking 2-3 high level transfers every year that need to sit out a year. There is really no reason to have a bench that is more than 5-6 players deep, especially with the talent that Oregon is bringing in. There are not enough minutes to go around with a 13-person roster anyways. You pick up a few guys with experience that have an entire year to learn the system. Plus, they have burned their redshirts, so it is less likely that they will bolt if their playing time is not perfect. I think we will see huge benefits next year from adding Eric and Eugene.
