Well the governors said we can play, so only now we should play!
And the governors are really only saying yes because the rest of the college football world said it's OK to play, so now the governors said it's OK to play!
Principles in this world are basically lost. Not even trying to say yay or nay to a certain governor. More just a general society issue. One second, players are locking out and demanding reform. Now they are begging to play.

Right, and for that to happen, we'd have to start playing in October, and that's looking SLIM.GrantDuck wrote:Would only imagine they do it if they playoff is back on play somehow.
I doubt teams would want to wait into February to play the playoffs. And if Oregon doesn't start until November, that's what will happen.

Still a few hurdles left but we're getting even closer. Seems the optics of the Pac-12 being the only P5 not playing finally lit a fire under some people's butts to get things going. These discussions should really have started shortly after the announcement of their partnership with Quidel for daily testing.

Re: Opting back in?
Zero chance the PAC12 p[lays in October. The daily testing won't be up and running until mid-November. Once it's happening, they can start practices. The conference has been telling us it's late November at the earliest. Sorry folks.UOducksTK1 wrote:Right, and for that to happen, we'd have to start playing in October, and that's looking SLIM.GrantDuck wrote:Would only imagine they do it if they playoff is back on play somehow.

Maybe they got additional information, such as the what happened at other schools which have football. Maybe the new testing methods reduce the risk. I realize now it is a alien idea to get the latest data and reevaluate your position. They used to call it being an mature adult.UOducksTK1 wrote:Well the governors said we can play, so only now we should play!

Re: The Pac-12 Needs to Revote on Playing This Fall... ASAP
What a joke, the PAC-12 manages to make a fool out of itself once again. The initial decision may or may not have been right. However, literally nothing has changed since August and if anything covid may get worse as we head into the fall/winter (maybe we'll be the only conference to cancel twice?). The only thing that has changed since August is the rapid-test thing which is still a fairly new concept, but it's not like the Pac-12 schools didn't have testing capacity before August...

Turn Mario loose on the Pac 12 leadership and he will have them whipped into shape mentally and then turn the strength coaches loose on them.

Re: Opting back in?
I figured the majority would agree that they should play. It seems like the right thing to do, however there isn't a college football fan who knows about the NCAA and there unique abilities to screw up and muddy what should be an easy solution. Thanks to those who answered the question and added their view/opinion on said question.

Rumor is late October or early November

Hoping pac 12 starts in late oct. so we have a shot at the CFP. Even Lawrences and fields, two top-5 locks, are playing. So I hope that changes Penei's mind and the league allows him back to play.

Re: Opting back in?
Penei has nothing to gain, and everything to lose. There is no school insurance policy that would come close to the guaranteed money he will get day one. Love to have him back. Not happening.alxtw wrote:Hoping pac 12 starts in late oct. so we have a shot at the CFP. Even Lawrences and fields, two top-5 locks, are playing. Riiiiight. As if these decisions weren't completely result-oriented based on revenue and the direction of the political winds.maxduck wrote:Maybe they got additional information, such as the what happened at other schools which have football. There were 1150 COVID-related deaths in the U.S. today, the highest in the world, and roughly the same as in August the day they made the decision to cancel fall sports. Also today, Kate Brown and the Oregon Health Authority made a special exception for football to move forward. Yeah, they re-evaluated their position all right - otherwise they would lose their position.
