Jack Del Rio sent contract to become next USC coach

Post by 247DUCK »

It looks like Jack Del Rio has been offered the head coaching job at USC.

There are also some notes regarding possible staff.

This looks like a pretty strong hire for the Trojans.

Sending a contract and signing a contract aren't exactly the same thing.
Obviously, this has a long way to go before it is final, but there is no doubt that Del Rio is a favorite.
If Del Rio resigns with the Jaguars, he gets no money, if he is fired, he gets the rest of the $15 million he is owed. Should make an interesting Tuesday
Sounds to me like it all hinges on whether or not Del Rio gets fired, which should be decided tomorrow.

Agreed.
But you have to figure that USC does not want to be turned down publicly to many times after an offer have been made. Making them look more in turmoil and panic.
Hence making sure that the answer will be yes before contracts are actually sent.

Where there is smoke usually there is fire. (See Carrol going to Seattle) ;)

I see your point but I think they already are desperate and this is a desperation move. Hoping that an alum that has expressed interest will have a harder time turning them down now that it is public. Ultimately, it all comes down to what happens tomorrow. If he gets fired (costing the Jags 15 million), then he is USC's next coach. Has he done a bad enough job that the Jags will swallow that? Do they have a better candidate lined up to take the job? That will be a pretty ballsy move on the Jags part if they are willing to write a check for 15 mil and be without a coach in the hopes that something better might just fall into their lap.

I guess we will see tomorrow. Personally i would like him to stay on the East coast. Let the trojans run around, scared that their football powerhouse is coming to a screeching halt.

Do we want Del Rio to be the coach? I really don't know much about him other than what he's done for Jacksonville.

Good hire? Bad hire?

It depend on who USC is getting for OC and DC, if its Really good OC. Del Rio should be fine, I read on SC's forum and they want Chow back with Coach O

Hoping they don't get him. The longer USC remains coachless, at this time of year, the better.

I don't think the Jags can afford to fire him, still pay him, and then replace him. They are one of the most strapped for cash teams right now and Paul Allen isn't their owner.

On a similar note, I don't think that USC can afford to pay his buyout, and pay for the salary of guys like Chow and Walker. Chow being the highest paid OC in the nation and Walker already getting HC pay at New Mexico right?

But rather than delving too deeply into all of this, I’ll just say I have a strong feeling Del Rio will be back as head coach of the Jaguars next season. I'm about 99 percent sure of it (can't say 100 percent because as we all know, anything can happen). Let’s just sit back and watch it unfold. All the speculation should become more interesting as the day passes.

I am not so sure he will have the same affect on the program that Petey had. He will be a good coach but he won't have the run and success Pete had. Those are some big shoes to fill, the boosters will get inpatient and he will only last a few years. Plus who knows what kind of ruling will come down on the investigations and what the penalty will be and the affect that will have. The Ducks should become the team to beat for a few years!
