Portland @ Oregon (Ducks win series 1-0)
GAME 1: W 14-3
Why do we play Portland 3 times during the seasons, but all at random times during the midweek. Is this normal scheduling for college baseball?

Wasn't this game a filler for a wash-out @ San Diego St.?

I think its hard to fit a 3 game series with a non conference foe into a busy schedule, but much easier to play three singles early in the week and then play the league games on the weekend.UOducksTK1 wrote:Tue, Apr 19 Portland - - Eugene, Ore. 6:00 p.m.

Who's starting tomorrow? I can't really think of a 5th possible starter since they've never gone beyond the four starters we've seen this season. Out of who's left on the staff, maybe Housey, Clayton, Healy or Tessar.

I would imagine Healy, but haven't heard anything official.
I don't think we've ever beaten Portland at PK. We've beaten them twice up there, but they shut us down here.

Sounds about right since the other guys are our main bullpen pitchers.oregontrack wrote:I would imagine Healy, but haven't heard anything official.

It looks like someone named Jeff Gold is starting tonight

Interesting. He's made a couple bullpen appearances, but has never started. Healy just started against UP last week and they started to get to him, I guess Horton wanted to shake things up.

Re: Portland @ Oregon (1 game series)
Why Hortonball confuses me at times:
We suck at offense. We have a freshman on the mound, who could REALLY use some early offense to help him out.
Garlick leads off the 3rd inning. He walks. Alto comes up. Alto is terrible this year; really, really terrible. We've got our best hitter (Pulfer) on deck. So, Alto bunts and sacrifices Garlick to scoring position, right? Let Pulfer get a crack at driving the run in?
No. Alto is allowed to swing. And he harmlessly pops up in foul territory. Now, a ground ball gets UP out of the inning.
?
The above rant aside, Pulfer singled, Garlick took third, and eventually scored on a throwing error. Then Thomas hit another single. So, we ARE being productive this inning -- it all worked out -- but the sequence still struck me as odd.

I mean I know we play in a pitchers park but why don't we even try to recruit power hitters. Good power hitters can hit it out of any park it doesn't make sense to me sometimes

Too bad we cannot do this against pac-10 opponents.

Re: Portland @ Oregon (1 game series)
Never heard of 2 pickoff attempts in one inning resulting in 2 errors. That pitcher must really have a poor pickoff move if he does that.

The game got out of hand fast. Looks like Oregon is going to get their first win over Portland at PK Park.
