Re: so, it's deadline day
it's possible, sure, but that also sounds a bit cliche. an infield isn't necessarily like an offensive line, it's not going to go through growing pains just because there are new pieces. it's all about how the two guys up the middle handle things. with the way horton has been willing to sacrifice offense in the name of defense i wouldn't at all be surprised if minjares, a plus defender, takes over short and karaviotis shifts to 2B. if your defense is only as good as what you've got up the middle, graham/minjares should be able to play with anyone, karaviotis would have to be really bad to make it noticeable.
which is possible.
which is possible.

Sisters Catcher Joey Morgan just committed to the Ducks Friday. He still has his senior year to play, Ohlman, and Horton wanted him bad. He was scheduled to visit OSU, but cancelled his visit. Going to be great to see a local boy on the field.

Basing this on Baseball America's MLB Draft/Signing database (but not sure how when it was last updated), Harris signed but it looks like Christy may not have. Not even sure who's even still in Oregon's recruiting class since the PerfectGame commitment tracker was way out of date and Horton could easily have gotten some late signees that weren't reported.UOducksTK1 wrote:Btw anyone know what happened to Pitcher Greg Harris and Catcher Francis Christy?

Oregon got another catcher for the 2014 class from Montana in Slade Heggen. Looks like he's marketing himself too, but not quite like Morgan.

From a story on OregonLive, Fentress makes it sound like Brett Thomas may be returning due to a wrist injury he's currently rehabbing. Not sure about the validity of this since Thomas said on Twitter he's signed and was in AZ rehabbing.

Re: so, it's deadline day
i'm 99.999% sure thomas signed. there was a lot of misinformation leading up to july 12, but from the horse's mouth (his twitter) he says he's a "former oregon duck, current seattle mariner"; and there's enough random tidbits from around the web via google searches to indicate he signed and is currently rehabbing.
that said, i can understand the confusion. i've yet to really see anything official. from seattle's own website, he never signed:

i know for a fact that he had not signed as of 7/9, but when i asked of his status in the original post of this thread on 7/12, someone responded that he had signed 'awhile ago'; unless 'awhile' spans 2 or 3 days, i dunno. i think there were just a couple different narratives going on at the time, and being a somewhat low pick there wasn't any fanfare when a decision was made. and being hurt, and thus never being assigned to the minors (i was hoping to catch him play w/ the aquasox this summer), questions have lingered.

Re: so, it's deadline day
He also had a Twitter conversation with Mitchell Tolman saying he'd see him in the fall for some workouts in Eugene with Coach Was. I know most baseball players have the fall and winter off from playing so this could just be his downtime and is just going to catch up with them. Guess we'll have to wait and see.oregontrack wrote:i'm 99.999% sure thomas signed. there was a lot of misinformation leading up to july 12, but from the horse's mouth (his twitter) he says he's a "former oregon duck, current seattle mariner"; and there's enough random tidbits from around the web via google searches to indicate he signed and is currently rehabbing.

Any update on Christy?
Would have been awesome of Thomas stayed, but we got some bodies to play OF for us.
