89 Point Guards

Post by Zyme »

Tim Hardaway- C+ C+ B- A- C- B

One of the top prospects in this class, a head and a shoulder above the rest of this very deep PG class. Hardaway has a great looking Jumpshot and good passer, Tim should excel at the NBA level. He has both the extremely quick hand and moves very well on defense in a way that the top defensive guards need. Good strength for a point guard and post skill with his athleticism. He has improved every year in college and scouts see no reason he wont do so at this level.

Pooh Richardson- C C A- A- D+ A

The definition of a pure point guard, Pooh is easily, far and away, the most mature point guard at his position in this class. His precision passing at UCLA left many a jaw on the floor and excellent ball handling skills ensured that he rarely let the ball escape his grasp. This led to a ton of wide open jumpers and layups for his teamates. Though a sneaker finisher when he wants to be, he usually ended up kicking out any drive to open teammates on the wing. Great defense, never had any problems staying in front of the quickest guards. Has the skills and potential to be the top assist man year in an year out.

Sherman Douglas- C+ C- B+ B- D+ B

No Ball is safe with Douglas on defense. Decent finisher inside and consistent at the FT line, he has been inconsistent from the 3pt line. In addition to his prowess robbing the ball, extremely quick with excellent on-ball skills. Very good at distributing the basketball. His nifty finishes and good leaping, coupled with his passing make him very difficult to match up against. Progressed well at Syracuse.

B.J. Armstrong- C A- B- B- C- B

Top outside shooter in this class. Scouts rave about his range and he never misses to take advantages of his opportunities at the line. Great on ball defender as he never bites on pump fakes, in fact many of those pumps ended up as stripped. Scored an outstanding 42" vertical at the combine and scored well for guards on the bench press. Never has had issues will ball security, and an acceptable passer.

Dana Barros- C A- C- C+ C- A

Small step down from Armstrong in shooting ability, but as yet an underdeveloped still-set. Not as strong as Armstrong but a sneakier finisher inside. Good defender both in the post and outside. May not have the ball skills to make it as a PG on the NBA level.

Other point guard prospects:

Mookie Blaylock- C+ C+ B+ B+ C- C

Excellent ball handler and thief. Great first step when driving the basketball and great vertical. Good strength for a guard. Had a poor year at Oklahoma and some scouts questioned his passion for the game.

Greg Grant- C C- C B- D+ A

Don't judge him by his size, he has the heart of a lion. Decent Jump shooter, but no range to speak of. Decent passer with few turnover problems. Scouts came away from the surprise combine invite raving about his potential, despite his size.

Byron Dinkins- C C C B+ D+ C

Excellent defender, outstanding jumpshot. Acceptable potential, will not get a ton of steals.

Haywoode Workman- C D C- B- D A

Sneaker finisher inside and good paremeter defense. Very poor passer. Great but not excellent potential.

Tiit Sokk- C C+ B- B- D- A

Starter at point for the USSR team, not much is known beyond that. The man from Estonia SSR got lost in the scuffle of all the great talent that team boasted. Was invited but did not attend the combine.
