1992 Point Guards

Post by Zyme »

Top 5 1992 Point Guards:

Hubert Davis C- C+ B C+ D B

Was the point man for the North Carolina Tar Heels. He was the classic game manager, he never won a game, but he damn sure never lost one. He took care of the basketball and had an outstanding assist to turnover ration. Tall, but he tended to depend on that height too much and never really showed a great set of moves at the hoop besides going up and hoping his height and strength will carry the day. His best quality beyond his stability holding the point was his outstanding defense. His quick hands drove his match-ups crazy.

Malik Sealy C C B B- C A

Very advanced defender out of St. Johns. He made it his job to stop Zo and his doubling on him did just that. He succeeded in holding Zo to an inefficient 8/8 game, and pulled out the close affair with clinching FTs. Great upside and excellent, albeit conservative, positional defense. His size and strength allowed him to guard all 5 positions well and rebounds very well for his position.

Anthony Peeler C B C+ C C- A

Very polished outside shooter out of the SEC Missouri squad. One of the few offensive threats in this class, his very well developed shot made leaving him alone very dangerous. At 6'4", 212 Peeler has prototypical size and strength. His lithe frame and good first step showed well at the combine. Doesn't play great defense and isn't the best passer, but is acceptable at both.

Randy Woods C+ C- C B- D+ A

Physical stud out of La Salle. He walked away with the shuttle run and the sprinting drills. On the break he is deadly and breaks away from pursuers with ease. On defense he never seemed to be affected by any screens and his recovery speed is nothing short of amazing. While he tries to go it alone too often, these ill-advised drives into traffic end with a block, rarely with a steal. Was voted all-conference 1st team in the Atlantic Ten Conference.

Lee Mayberry C- C+ B- C D B

The point man for the Razorback squad along with Todd Day and Miller. Good size at 6'1" 175, he could use to put on weight but scout really like what he project to as he gets into a pro teams training regimen. Decent positional defender, but really never showed the ability to come away with the ball on defense. Really needs work on getting around screens.

Other Point Guard Prospects:

Brent Price C- B- C+ C+ D A

Point man for the University of Oklahoma. Scouts love his upside and has great nose for coming away with the steal. Really good looking outside shot and good at picking out the right man on the pass.

Elmer Bennett C C- B+ C D A

Most advanced passer in this class out of Notre Dame. Didn't suffer from turnovers this last season and played decent defense. Very good quickness, but not elite. Good but not exceptional potential.

Duane Cooper C- C C+ C+ D B

USC man does an excellent job taking care of the ball. Very advanced defender and pretty good passer. Limited around the tin and his outside shooting was only come and go. Ok Potential

Shane Heal C+ C+ B- C C- A

Point guard prospect out of Australia. Was invited to the combine but choose not attend.

Mark Baker B- C C+ C C- A

Very strong guard that solidified the Ohio State machine. He was a very polished finisher and did a great job at the free throw line. A tank for the PG position, his 175 lb, 6'0" frame would look at home in a museum of Greek statues with his body builder's physique.
