96 Power Forwards

Post by Zyme »

Top 5 1996 Power Forward Prospects:

Kevin Garnett B- C+ C- B C+ A

An unusually gifted freshman out of the University of Illionis. While many are wondering why he went to college just to leave, soon after Stephen Jackson declared out of High School Garnett declared, many feel that the timing was not unconnected. Very polished finisher on the low block. He has the size to play center and the quickness to play small forward. The above the rim skills of Garnett and his exceptional high post skills make him one of the most dangerous players to come out in a long time. His defense is extremely mature and plays it very safe. He is relentless on the offensive boards and scouts are drooling over his upside.

Ben Wallace D+ F+ D+ B B- A

Did somebody say defense?

Wallace is one of those unique kids that comes out once in a blue moon. He is like a less polished Motombo. He is a better rebounder than Dikembe is and much more raw on the offensive side. Scout often wonder if he even knows that there is the offensive side. This should not take away from just how good he is on the defensive and rebounding phases of the game. Easily the most polished rebounder at both the o and d sides of the game. Scouts rave about his upside and think he will be competing for all league defensive honors before too long.

Shareef Abdur-Rahim B- C C B- C B

Long, lanky forward out of UCLA. He has a great nose for the hoop in the low post and pretty much defines the term "stretch 4". He can step out the 3pt a little and he decently established midrange game. He does a little bit of everything on defense, but does not do any exceptionally. He is a good offensive rebounder, but struggles against stronger rebounders when the ball comes off the rim. For someone who is 6'9" he is extremely athletically gifted and can play either forward position with ease. Very good upside.

Lorenzen Wright C+ D+ D C B- B

Very good rebonder out of Memphis State. Protypical size for his position at a shade under seven feet made scout really eager to get a look at him in the combine. There he held his own against even against some of the best rebounders, like Wallace or Ilgauskis, in this class. While he doesn't have the best post game, his strength and ability to beat his matchup off the drive for the slam makes him a solid, if albeit unspectacular, prospect. Scout think he has room left to grow but feel a "B" grade was a very fair analysis of his upside.

Jerome Williams C+ C- D C+ C+ A

The partner in crime for AI at Georgetown. While AI did all the scoring, Jerome made up for everything that AI couldn't, or wouldn't do. He pounds the glass with a passion and blew the scouts at the combine away with his footwork on the defensive game and glass. While he doesn't gamble for a ton of blocks, he easily keeps his matchup at bay and has extremely quick hands and forced more than his fair share of strips. Not the best free-throw shooter, but also very careful with the ball. His lack of strength may be a bit of a concern but he has plenty of room left to grow.

Other Power Forward Prospects:

Othella Harrington C D+ D- C+ C+ A

Balanced defensive/rebounding prospect. He his relentless on the offensive glass but can get a little lazy on the defensive side. Solid potential.

Ben Davis C+ D F+ C+ C A
Pac-10 kid out of perenial power Arizona. Good stretch 4 but shoots like a 5 from the FT line. Good finisher, solid potential, very mature defense.

Jamie Feick C+ D+ D C B- C
One of the better rebounders in this class. Scouts are concerned he doesn't play enough defense. His gradeout on potential suffered as a result.

Roy Rogers C+ C- D B C C
Great name, shutdown defender, not much else.

Malik Rose C+ C- D C C A
Good finisher, raw otherwise, great upside
