For some context that I got from reading a few Nebraska fans and writers, their best CB was moved to S to fill some depth issues while another couple of upperclassmen starters were lost for big parts of the season due to injury, resulting in them having to use a bunch of FR and SO in their first periods of extended use.

Everyone here should understand the consequences of starting a woefully inexperienced secondary. I've never seen that work out well.
Willie Taggart is a dick.

JHop referred to some of the DBs not loving Clark. I liked him because we saw a MASSIVE improvement in young DBs.

Question, was he a good recruiter? I only saw footage with Bolden and we know how that ended.

I really don't like the whole "Well now that he's gone I'm going to bring up negative things." Not you, but JHop's disseminating that kind of stuff.

Agreed. It makes some people feel better. Not me. Winning makes me feel better.

From this article on OLive, there's a chance they don't have a full staff by Signing Day but they should be close to one.

Honestly don't know how to judge Clark as a coach. My first impression was pretty good. Oregon D was yard stingy but point porous hence the 46th yard defense versus the 81st scoring defense. This is largely scheme as Oregon commits to the middle of the field and line of scrimmage leaving the corners one on one on the outside and deep quarters in zone almost the entire game. The corners gave up a boat load of big plays, but again this is a choice made in the scheme to make them attack the outside while being stingy up the middle.

Springs seemed to be much improved (Seniors usually are, but I'll give Clark a nod for that anyway.) Graham actually peaked early suggesting he walked in the door with a pretty good skill set and shined against the early season cupcakes. Lenoir.

Hard to tell with such a small sample but if I had my druthers I would have kept Clark as in this defense the corners are going to be the key to getting that point per game ranking closer to the yards per game. So coaching over recruiting for that spot unless you can do both like the guy formerly from UCLA appears to be able to do.

Since Oderinde is gone, I wonder if Nebraska retained S&C coach Mark Phillipp? His department is considered by some to be top 10 among NCAA Football Playoff Series teams.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1626 ... e-football

"Nebraska is known for its tough football, and the strength and conditioning program is how this team is so nasty."

http://www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml ... =210174527

"Philipp has made a strong impact on the Nebraska program. In 2016, the Huskers' outstanding strength and conditioning was evident as Nebraska ranked among the nation's best teams in the fourth quarter.
A certified strength and conditioning specialist, Philipp is also a certified Level 1 Club Coach by USA Weightlifting, in addition to being certified in functional movement screening."

Prior to his stint at Nebraska, Phillip spent 2 years as an assistant S&C coach at USC, a position he also held from 2009-2013 at Oregon State.

Rad still hanging around helping other parts of the athletic department? He was pretty well respected and did a pretty darn good job of keeping out D's in shape when TOP was heavily in our opponents favors.

He's still helping out the baseball and T&F programs. I don't think he'll be returning in a major way to the football program because while Rad was good for speed, endurance and flexibility, Oregon was lacking in overall size and strength, especially along the lines and LB. Many former Oregon OL and DL have said that when they got to training for the NFL, they noticed they were severely lacking in strength and had to almost relearn everything they learned about strength training at Oregon. Some have said that "Oregon Strong is NFL Weak" was used by certain draft/combine trainers once they got a hold of Oregon players.

A good S&C coach is crucial for the type of football that we want to play.

BTW. I would say that Clark was a good coach and an average to below average recruiter. Glad we kept Heyward. he's a good coach and recruiter.

I'll pass on Rad. Our team actually looked like it had football players this year. I don't want to go back to the Rad days.

Nebraska fan here. I would say it's probably best to not judge D.Williams by the performance of his group at Nebraska last year. If rumors are to be believed, Williams was pretty pissed about the way Diaco, our DC last year, wanted things done. Williams supposedly wanted a real aggressive style of play, but Diaco is more of a soft, bend-don't-break, full-time Prevent mentality kind of guy. I don't think we really got to see what he's capable of as a coach in our one year with him.
