lol potentially, but the jokes on us because baseball is infinitely more expensive to financially maintain.
i do think it was equal parts jealousy and ego that brought oregon baseball back. beaver fans love to throw that in our face, but i have no problem admitting it. it is what it is. pat kilkenny saw oregon state win a few national titles and become omaha regulars and thought, "oregon state can do it, it can't be that difficult if you throw money at it."
and here we are.
i would like to address something i said in one of the other threads regarding horton: i'm as frustrated with our lack of hitting as anyone, i'm not saying horton deserves a free pass or shouldn't be under intense scrutiny. i just don't think his replacement, whoever that might be, is going to do any better so i'm not expecting any sort of magic fix. horton may deserve to be fired for no other reason than he makes more money than most college baseball coaches around the country and so long as we're missing out on the postseason every year now, we may as well pay someone else less money who can accomplish the same thing.

I think it had more to do with getting more Women's scholarship athletes to help with Title 9 compliance. When we added Baseball I think we also had to add Women's competitive dance/cheer (one of only like 4 schools with such program at the time iirc) to be compliant.
We ended up with Field of Dreams when we need Roy Hobbs and The Natural
