That's poor protection management from Lakers (and not the first time from my recollection). I dunno what the solution is but not a great problem to see.Oregon Ownage wrote:The ‘99 had protections for eternity which carried over into this yearUOducksTK1 wrote:So when I trade for a pick in general, I may not get it? And that cannibalizes my rights to the pick I traded for?Oregon Ownage wrote:The ‘99 had protections for eternity which carried over into this yearUOducksTK1 wrote:So when I trade for a pick in general, I may not get it? Honestly seems like issue on Lakers end. Similar idea to a team signing guys over hard cap..

Agreed. We need to come with a solution to this. Maybe no more protections?Craig wrote:That's poor protection management from Lakers (and not the first time from my recollection). Re: '00 Lottery Odds
The solution should be that if a team has traded a pick in the future that was a protection backup without clarifying the stipulations, then they lose their protection.
So theoretically if we had caught it earlier, the Pistons should've just gotten the '99 Lakers pick since Lakers traded their '00 pick without setting the right conditions. Then Celtics would just get the '00 1st as agreed upon.
But hard to catch sometimes and it shouldn't be on Ownage

That's probably the best ruling. But I'm OK with burdening it on the GMs who agreed to the pick.offtheheezy wrote:The solution should be that if a team has traded a pick in the future that was a protection backup without clarifying the stipulations, then they lose their protection.

Re: '00 Lottery Odds
well, both pistons/celtics deserve compensation for the situation but it seems like the Celtics should have the choice of which pick to claim, and then the pistons get the other. as opposed to the current solution.
reasoning has to do with the timing of the trades. Celtics first established rights to this pick, and then subsequently the pistons did. Obviously, no fault of the pistons but the only difference between cetlics/pistons is that Pistons MIGHT (or a better word is "could have") have known that the pick would be owed to the Celtics; whereas the Celtics had a "clean title" at the time of his trade.
however, the pistons have had a clear historical record whereas the Celtics have had their fair share of nefarious activities, so I wouldn't be opposed to keeping as it is in order to obtain a more holistic view of justice.

Good thing the nefarious rankings for this season haven’t come out yet

I almost joked that I was 5th in odds which seems to be the sweet spot.
