In all likelihood. Chance Gray and Vandersloot will be good but probably not enough to carry this team very far.
Oregon was picked to finish 8th on media day. Probably fair for a loaded Conference in its last year. It certainly isn't cast in stone though as this team has a chance to be the best defensive team Graves has had. Offensively, it has several really good 3 point shooters, but other than Grace there isn't much offensive threat in the paint. When so much of the offense will be 3 point shots they'll be inconsistent offensively. Hopefully the defense will carry them through those cold spells enough to be a top 4 team in the league.

It is a tough conference when an Oregon State who unlike Oregon has a couple 5 star extra bigs is picked to finish 10th. Oregon has 3 Mcdonald All-Americans and is predicted to be 8th.

Biggest surprise of the exhibition game for me was Sophie Bell started as a true Freshman and Graves seemed to indicate she will continue in that role. (P Williams eligibility and Hammel concussion protocol didn't play and are probably the best % 3 point shooters on the team.)
Damn. The post sabrina rebuilding year has turned into a rebuilding era of years.
For people who follow the team more closely: how hot is Graves' seat?

If they completely tank this season, then I think he would be on the hot seat the following season. If they finish in the bottom third of the conference this season and next (I don't think that will happen, but it is possible), I would expect a shakeup.

I would say not even warm. EXCEPT: Is there a reason for the high number of transfers that hasn't surfaced to the public? A hidden cancer like a coach the players hate or something. It is very likely there isn't but if there is and it comes out that might bring up some heat. I doubt that is the reason though. WBB transfers since the portal have been widespread. One of the biggest assholes in WBB coaching is doing great bringing in transfers (NIL $). Lombardi in Softball has had massive transfers out and is a known to rub lots of players the wrong way but there has been no heat on her that I have heard of. Ulmer who is generally loved by the players has lots of ins and outs since the portal.

If the season ends the way it is forecast and Barnes at UA comes in 7th, Graves 8th and Rudek 10th I think you would be nuts to consider dropping any of them. Besides Utah who was picked first is there because they got a transfer who was great as a freshmen, mediocre as a sophomore, worse the next year and then transfers to Utah and becomes the MVP of the league. A lot of luck involved there.

I think it was known within the circles that Sedona was just a nasty person and poisoned the dynamic of the team.

This season might be a good one to tank if there's any. A lot of nobody transfers to fill in gaps. It literally feels like a brand new program that couldn't get D1 players.
Save the humiliation and just skip the year if we can. Next year looks more like the "rebuilding" blocks.

What is the point of tanking? You don't get a better draft pick or something.

Your starters include 2 McDonalds All Americans (both All-Pac Freshmen last year), Phili who you wouldn't trade for most 4 or 5 stars, 4 star Bell who has beat out 4 star Sammy and 5 star P Williams to start as a true freshmen, and finally Peyton Scott who was one of the most sought after transfers in the pool. In any other conference but the PAC you would be a top contender and win 25 games.

There was one player in the transfer pool who could have taken us to top 5 (Morrow). We missed on her. Should have kicked in more NIL.

Looking at the 2020 class, a lot of players really found their game this NCAA tournament/season and is turning out to be a VERY strong class.

A very quick dive revealed only 7 of the top 22 quoted stayed with their original schools...
Out of the top 100...65 transferred. Not an Oregon specific issue.

I think that is 6 of the Top 22 stayed with their original school. Number 7 Van Lith transferred to LSU.

Thanks for that research by the way it was very interesting.

Thanks for the correction. Had VanLith as a transfer in the initial round and then missed her on the deep dive.
