Re: Nick Saban Retiring
Is it really too outlandish to say Oregon isn't as good of a job as Alabama? I don't think so. The college football landscape has changed mightily in the past five years. The transfer portal and NIL has created unprecedented parity and we're already seeing the results. It's impossible now for teams like Alabama to horde all the 5* talent and dominate everyone else. Also, Oregon may be better equipped than Alabama and other blue blood schools to harness the full power of NIL and get the players needed to win big.
And the biggest thing always holding back Oregon -- not being in the Big 10 or SEC -- is no longer an issue. As much as I was saddened by the death of the Pac-12, this really did happen with perfect timing for Oregon.
The only thing Alabama has that can't be found at Oregon are sky-high expectations.

I agree. We just needed a coach that saw what Oregon was capable of. DL is that guy.pezsez1 wrote:Is it really too outlandish to say Oregon isn't as good of a job as Alabama? I don't think so. Alabama as recent as 2007 was only 7-6 and the years between Gene Stallings as HC and Nick Saban were very slim before that.
With the wrong coach, could they go back to that in a league with Georgia, Texas, Oklahoma, Auburn, Tennessee, etc.? It's possible.

I think Bama's list right now for interviews is probably:
Kalen DeBoer
Mike Norvell
Dabo Swinney
Glenn Schumann
Wouldn't be surprised to see Schumann be the guy.

My favorite Lanning line from the MacAfee interview was "ten toes down". He should trademark that!!!

Does anyone know where Dan's parents live and his wife's parents live?gogreen55 wrote:Or tolerates it at least.Duck07 wrote:It also means his wife enjoys it here too.
I'm sure this weather lately isn't her favorite, particularly after returning from a few days in Arizona.

Dan's parents live in Richmond Missouri where Dan grew up. They still live in the same home Dan grew up in.RanDux wrote:Does anyone know where Dan's parents live and his wife's parents live?gogreen55 wrote:Or tolerates it at least.Duck07 wrote:It also means his wife enjoys it here too.

This is why I love this board. On other boards it would have gone like this:SuperDuck wrote:Gotcha'. Sorry about the misunderstanding.pezsez1 wrote:SuperDuck, the video was updated and posted on Twitter by Dan The Man himself before his appearance on ESPN.Uh...this video is over a year old.

Someone edit Kalen DeBoer's wikipedia page to say he has accepted the position as Alabama HC.

I can tell you from personal experience. The weather in Missouri is nothing to celebrate. Humid, cold and windy all worse than Eugene.lmduck wrote:Dan's parents live in Richmond Missouri where Dan grew up. Who are no longer going to play for a discount in order to play for Saban. On a side note, it's been tabulated that Saban's players have earned over 2.2 BILLION in NFL contracts.webfoots2001 wrote:That and hundreds of 4+ star recruits within a 250 mile radius of campus.pezsez1 wrote:

100%. There are a few out there that their own breed, but I would grab a beer with most folks on this board. I don't always agree with their thoughts, but good people.DuckMastaFunk wrote:This is why I love this board. On other boards it would have gone like this:SuperDuck wrote:Gotcha'. Sounds like it’s going to be DeBoer based on the rumor mill this morning. I guess he canceled a radio appearance he was set for 8am this morning? Definitely some smoke…
