Cannon Beach, Yay or Nay?

Looking at places to travel and my girlfriend came across Cannon Beach. We had never heard of it before so I did some quick research and it looks amazing. Has anyone vacationed there before? Would you recommend it?

We would probably stay for a week, are there enough activities for the week?

I appreciate any feedback

Having grown up very nearby, I can tell you a little bit. It's a great place to vacation, but I don't know that you'll find a week's worth of things to do right in CB itself. That said, if you're willing to use it as a home base and make some very easy day trips, I think you could make a great vacation out of it.

Without knowing what kinds of things you like to do, or who else is traveling (kids?), it's hard to give too many specific pointers. But you can probably have a couple fun days in CB, and then, depending on your interests, branch out from there. You'd be a short drive from Astoria/Warrenton, Long Beach, Fort Stevens State Park, Manzanita, Seaside, and Tillamook, which gives you options for spending time at the coast if you run out of things to do in CB.

Cannon is pretty nice but a week is a bit much. You could go up to Astoria for a day and spend some time in seaside but maybe more like 4 days.

If I was you and coming from Virginia right? I would prefer to spend a few days in Portland and maybe Bend and break it up a bit.

Or head down to Bandon and Florence if you're set on the beach.

Also, the Oregon coast rarely gets above 70 degrees no matter when you go.

I agree lots to see in Oregon, but week on the coast is a good start. I would not spend it at cannon beach, cannon beach is good for about three days of sites and then same old beach. If you want a week on the Oregon coast I would base it out of Lincoln City. Lots more choices of restaurants and hotels plus a nice casino with a good buffet. As Lincoln City as a base, after you have seen the sights in Lincoln City, "roads end", "cascade head" neskawin beach(sp). It's a short trip to pacific city with a great beach and dunes. Maybe the dory fleet is fishing, fun to watch. Tillamook is an hour north, cheese factory with great hard ice cream and cheese samples plus more. To the south is Devils punchbowl, boiler Bay, Depoe Bay, a fishing town with lots of shops. Newport is a little further south, one of the bigger towns on the coast with a decent aquarium and Bay side dock. Lots more sites to see....and the casino! Lol. Enjoy your time what ever you decide to do.

Thanks for all the feedback.

The trip would be adults, no kids so sight seeing and hiking would be our plan of attack. I like the idea of visiting multiple places along the coast and seeing Portland, hopefully make it to Eugene!

I have hiked a bunch of the places Luke listed and not disagreeing at all except those places a very spread out through western Oregon, for example Opal Creek is probably around 150 miles from Saddle Mountain, Black Butte maybe two fifty. If you do saddle mountains, outside of Astoria, eat your Wheaties, key word being mountain, but if you hit it on a clear day a fantastic view. Hiking cascade head just outside of lincoln city is nice and a great view, nice place for picnic at the top. You can hike all the capes and heads, I believe there are five in the area. Also as a life long Oregon guy, so I may be bias, I would do Eugene over portland any day. If you haven't been on campus there is so much to see, Autzen, a torn down Hayward field(lol) Mathew Knight area, Marcus's Hiesman, I was told by security there on a Saturday the building is open to the public week days, but the trophy is next to a plate glass window for viewing. JMO. Have a great time hard not to.

Hug point is a fun place to check out and not too far from Cannon Beach. I would make sure to go at low tide if possible.

Just went to Cannon today since I haven't been to the beach in over a decade, but had to go to Seaside since I didn't find any parking close. Seaside was crowded too cause their having a volleyball tournament their this weekend, but it was nice and cool weather.

Was just in Cannon Beach last week, albeit briefly. What to do/see totally depends on your timeline. Cannon Beach is quaint and very tourist-centric. Seaside is more of a regular town, bigger but plenty of touristy stuff. I personally really like Pacific City and Lincoln City to the south.

I think if you're looking at a week, I would probably allocate 2-3 days in Portland (including a trip to the Gorge), 2-3 days on the coast (pick a town, any town), and a day at the wineries around Newberg/McMinnville which are dead-smack in the middle of the two. That's what some of my NYC friends did when they visited and loved it.

My two favorite Oregon beaches.

I just got back from there and it was amazing. Check out the 2 state parks north and south of CB. Ecola and Oswald. Go to Mos and get a crab grilled cheese, just trust me. Also there is a place in CB that specializes in crepes, get the one with banana, ice cream and nuttella.

Those are good crepes! I just had them too a few weeks ago.

Most places mentioned are nice. Grandparents lived in yachats...when I was a kid(40 years ago) it was nice. I’ve always liked Tillamook(the cheese factory is cool if you’ve never been there before)
On a side note the Publix store here in Franklin Tn now carries Tillamook Ice Cream...brings back memories of being in Oregon
